There was a lot of anticipation leading up to Palin's speech. Many people--many women-- told KSPR seeing Sarah Palin in the flesh and off of TV is what they needed in order to see the big picture.
A long line of car lights lit up the night sky. A slow line on a bitterly cold evening couldn't keep away five thousand people. "I really want to hear her speak," said College of the Ozarks freshman Katie Petersen.
It's no surprise that those who love her came to the event. "I've been a big Sarah Palin fan ever since she started running with John McCain," said Petersen.
Even those on the fence still wanted to be near her. "I want to see her in person," said Joan Davis. "It's hard to tell when the media's saying one thing, and you see her on television. I don't think you get the true picture. I think seeing her in person, hearing her voice and hearing what she has to say makes a difference."
"It's a daring thing to do," said Petersen. She's proud that C of O made the move. "I really respect them to be able to bring her in because they've gotten a lot of criticism over this. But you know, it just doesn't matter."
Others told KSPR they were glad to see how the event showcased their Alma mater. Like many, they're C of O fans first, hoping that Palin brought in people who will, in turn, appreciate the school.
"I think it's a great thing that people know about us and are willing to come and see what we're about," said Miranda, a former alum.
"We're about values, good character, and we want to see that portrayed in our politicians," said Davis. "We hope that's what Sarah Palin's about."
Though few politicians are currently as popular as Mrs. Palin, you could argue she is not the most notable speaker at C of O. Margaret Thatcher, Colin Powell, Tony Snow, and Tom Brokaw, are just a few of the people who have given a speech there.
KSPR's senior producer, Ron Davis, had a coveted ticket to Sarah Palin's speech. He has the details about what went on inside. Click here to see that video.
I read on C4P that there were sharp shooters at the event. Thank God, considering what happened at the Rochester event, after she left, some whack job came and threw eggs at her books, she has to be adequately protected from the looney left. As Obama continues to tank in the polls, the realization that Sarah Palin can beat Obama will drive them insane, well they are already insane but you know what I mean
I read she got a standing ovation. Now she is on her way to Arkansas for the next book signing
Yeah, he’s a lispy little effeminate weenie jerk. And that’s his good side. :)
Yeah, that was pretty clear from some of the liberal buzzwords and phrases he was using. :-)
Does anyone know if there’s a website keeping count of how many people are in attendance at each stop on Sarah’s book tour?
VDJ is a good guy.
I prefer Palin’s speaking events to be open to the public. This way, people can see what Palin actually said instead of relying on the reporting of biased liberals.
