Big developing states reject Copenhagen climate plan (Ruh-ROH!)

NEW DELHI/LONDON (Reuters) – China and other big developing nations rejected core targets for a climate deal such as halving world greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 just five days before talks start in Copenhagen, diplomats said on Wednesday.

China, the world's top emitter, together with India, Brazil and South Africa demand that richer nations do more and have drawn "red lines" limiting what they themselves would accept, the diplomats told Reuters.

The four rejected key targets proposed by the Danish climate talks hosts in a draft text -- halving global greenhouse gases by 2050, setting a 2020 deadline for a peak in world emissions, and limiting global warming to a maximum 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial times, European diplomats said.

Developing nations want richer countries to do much more to cut their emissions now before they agree to global emissions targets which they fear may shift the burden of action to them, and crimp their economic growth.

"We cannot agree to the 50/50 (halving emissions by 2050) because it implies that ... the remaining (cuts) must be done by developing countries," South Africa's chief climate negotiator Alf Wills said, partly confirming the EU diplomats' comments.

Rich nations' carbon offers so far were far below those recommended by a U.N. panel of scientists, Wills told Reuters, making clear that developing nations could change their stance if industrialized states tightened their carbon targets.

The dispute underscored a rich-poor rift which has haunted the two-year talks to agree a new global climate deal to succeed the Kyoto Protocol in 2013 and dampens hopes of rescuing the December 7-18 Copenhagen summit.

A legally binding deal is already out of reach for the U.N. talks, with only a political deal possible.

Well the Chinese sure surprised me with this one. I expected them to pay lip-service to cutting carbon emissions, never intending to carry out any real changes in their economic activity. I thought they would just stymie enforcement with their usual lies and prevarications. To come right out and say they are not on board is kind of different for them. But all well and good; they may be doing us a favor by killing it.

The Chinese are the biggest polluters on the planet.

I’ll give her one peck for her drawing.. this goes to show the level global warming and going green permeate our society .. including art.

You can’t turn around these days without seeing ‘green’ in the media.

Now I am all for saving the four-toed sloth but if it means no plastic or paper bags at the local mart, next question is, bbq or grill .. ? I guess that makes me a REgressive. ;-)

Its not going to happen. Even First World South Africa has a Third World sub-population and China and India are not going to agree to keep themselves out of the rich countries' club just so Western environmentalists can feel less guilty.

Piltdown Man: A Deliberate Hoax

http://www.allaboutcreation.org/piltdown-man.htm

Upon critical investigation, the hoax was exposed very quickly. However, the “find” was not investigated properly until forty-years after the initial “discovery”. This was due primarily to the excellent credentials held by the men who made the “discovery.” Very few experts ever suspected fraud.

...However, the file marks upon the teeth, and the fact that the “wear” was backward, would have been immediately obvious upon any inspection from the very beginning.

Piltdown: The Man that Never Was

http://www.unmuseum.org/piltdown.htm

Piltdown was proclaimed genuine by several of the most brilliant British scientists of the day: Arthur Smith Woodward, Arthur Keith and Grafton Elliot Smith. How did these faked fragments of bone fool the best scientific minds of the time?

That’s what I thought too. That all along they planned to hold out until they knew we’re willing to do MORE. Sadly, regardless of the climategate news, Obama may do just that.

The EU and Obama will keep up’ing the ante until they are bought off— works in Washington. Luckily there is NO chance of getting 67 votes in the Senate to approve the treaty— even if several RINOs defect....

They are NOT rejecting the claim that man is to blame- they are simply ticked off that rich nations won;’t foot most of the bill to ‘fix’ global climate change- again, they are not accepting copenhagen’s proposals for the WRONG reasons- The LIE is still being perpetrated, but htose invovled in it are simply ticked that ‘everyone isn’t playing fair’ by copntributing evenly

Honestly, what the hell is Obama’s dumb@ss gonna bloviate about at the Copenhagen summit?

Isn't Obama going to promise that the USA will cut CO2 emissions 83% by 2050?

ANY (R) that defects should be fed to polar bears. If that’s deemed too harsh, then they can become polar bears’ prison bitches — that would be OK too.
