Staff reports
Local News – December 2, 2009 - 5:00am

SNIPPET: “About 11:20 p.m., two officers from the Rochester Police Department responded to reports of a home invasion at an apartment building at 265 Driving Park.

When the two male officers reached the third floor, they were fired upon. One officer was shot once, the other shot twice, in the upper body.

Both officers were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, and both have undergone surgery or will undergo surgery, but both officers’ injuries appear to be non-life-threatening, according to Rochester police Officer LaRon Singletary.

The suspect, one male, is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.”

SNIPPET: “(Rochester, N.Y.) - Police are interviewing two people of interest, as they continue their investigation of the shooting of two Rochester police officers.

Police Chief David Moore tells us the two male officers were responding to a 911 call around 11:20pm Tuesday night. Moore says the call was made from inside an apartment building at 265 Driving Park Avenue. The caller was screaming into the phone and dispatchers could not understand him or her. The officers were shot shortly after they arrived.

Moore, who went to the hospital to check on the officers Tuesday night, tells us one officer was shot three times; in the hand, arm, and chest area. The shot to the chest did not penetrate the officer’s bullet-proof vest. The other officer was struck in the lower leg.

The RPD said the officers’ injuries were not-life threatening, and both are in stable condition. One officer is out of surgery, with the other officer’s surgery is delayed due to swelling of the wound.

The officers’ names are not being released, until all family members have been notified.”
