Nelson Sponsoring Stupak Amdt to Cut Abortion in Senate Health Bill

Washington, DC -- Sen. Ben Nelson, a pro-life Democrat from Nebraska, confirmed today that he is working on an amendment to the Senate version of the government-run health care bill that would remove abortion funding from it. He said the amendment would be similar to language adopted in the House.

[restraining self] OK. It's proper to speak out, legislatively, for life. However, removing/restricting/reducing abortion funding will not make government control of healthcare any less an affront to liberty.

So let's go through the charade but not be fooled by it, OK?

Just a sham to fool gullible Catholics and Pro-Lifers.

There is no way in creation the the democrat party will not fund abortions, one way or another.

I heard they’ll pass it so that it expires after a year and will need to be revoted on.

So he voted for it (allowing debate) before he was against it (drafting a fig leaf).

Haha.

This is just the type of amendment that’ll tear the Democrat caucus apart. The feminists won’t vote for it with the amendment ... the pro-life Democrats won’t vote for it without the amendment. Let them tear the bill apart themselves. Blow the sucker up.

I don’t think the Dems will let the opportunity go by to pass the social health care. They will reconvene their generals to find a way to slip the abortion funding in through some other bill or some other trick.

Julieee, thank you for posting this. I think we all agree that there are 10,000 things wrong with the Federal Healthcare Takeover, starting with Page One.

But the Demonic Abortion Thing is both manifestly importantin itself, and weirdly emblematic of the whole thing.

And SnakeDoctor, I think you've got this right: the Democrats are not going to be able to finesse this. The Abortion issue has the potential to stop the Government Healthcare Takeover AND tear the Democratic Party apart.

Action Time

Regardless of what anyone thinks of individual Democrats or Democrats as a whole, they can count. And the truth is seeping into their world, that "60% of Americans think abortion should be either illegal or legal only in a few circumstances... while just 13% want abortion covered in any government-subsidized health plan....

Meanwhile, Marjorie Dennenfelser of the the Susan B. Anthony list reports that the abortion-enthusiasts are going screaming, tongue-swallowing, freaking insane over Stupak:

"I have also rarely seen such a demonstration of hatred as the smear campaign the pro-abortion elites have subsequently leveled against Bart Stupak.

"The pro-abortion group Credo Action is sending hundreds of thousands of coat hangers to the 20 members of Bart Stupak's pro-life coalition that they consider most vulnerable to intimidation.

"NARAL is orchestrating an anti-Stupak march on the capital on Wednesday.

"Planned Parenthood launched the website "Stop Stupak," which is devoted solely to collecting signatures to attack Bart Stupak and his amendment.

"MSNBC Host Rachel Maddow launched a smear attack against Bart Stupak for living at a Christian housing facility on C Street, implying that Christians may have concocted a 'conspiracy' to insert their 'values' into politics.

"The Huffington Post featured a personal attack article called, "Bart Stupak, Keep Your Hands Off My Daughter."

"[The SBA list plans to] buy radio ads in his home district in Michigan thanking him for heroic leadership in the face of intense hatred.

"It is clear to me that the pro-abortion elites know that the Achilles heel of this health care reform bill is the coalition of pro-life Democrats. They have decided to combine intimidation of vulnerable pro-life Democrats with a smear campaign against Bart Stupak himself.

"However, while they are attacking him in Washington, we will be running a thank you campaign where it really matters, in his home district in Michigan. Our efforts will ensure that his own constituents -- the folks that really matter -- know that Bart Stupak is a pro-life hero."

Face reality: if we act intelligently, this will Kill the Bill.

Action Time: visit Susan B. Anthony List and take it from there.

This is a distraction. When has any democrat ever been against abortion?

Kill the whole bill, the bill is designed to abort people in general.

The content of any federal version of health care is irrelevant because they are unconstitutional on their face since Article 1 Section 8 does not expressly nor specifically grant Congress the power to regulate health care. This is the only salient point people should be impressing upon their politicians!

The child molesters supporting abortion think they are so smart sending out coat hangers. I say put their pictures up on sexual predators websites.

Drilling a hole in a baby’s skull and sucking out the brain is the ultimate in child molesting.

Federal Abortion Funding will be replaced with Fetal Assisted Suicide Funding.

silly me, I almost typed "Unborn", but that would be acknowledging something better left unacknowledged.

The abortion issue does not matter in the health care bill!

Even if the so-called moderates are successful in keeping the abortion issue out, liberals like Hussein have already demonstrated they will use Executive orders and the COURTS to thwart the will of the legislation!
