Huckabee blames others for cop killings during O'Reilly interview (VIDEO)
The Examiner ^ | 12/1/2009 | Kevin Hall

He quickly pointed the finger at the parole board, the judge, and the prosecutor. He said no one spoke out against granting clemency, which does not square with the prosecutor's recollection.

“The parole board which the Governor has no control over paroled him.

Who do you think appoints the Parole Board?”

GOOD point! Huck was also over the edge liberal on illegal aliens. Compassion like his will kill us all.

2006: Supported President Bush’s immigration plan and claimed that opposition to Bush’s proposal was driven by “racism or nativism” and that it wasn’t amnesty. (Ralph Hallow, “Huckabee ‘Serious’ About Presidency,” Washington Times, 5/17/06)

Wrote in his 2007 book that implementing strict enforcement of immigration laws “would be sheer folly” and that it made sense to give “those here illegally a process through which they pay a reasonable fine in admission of their guilt for the past infraction of violating our border laws and agree to adhere to a pathway toward legal status and citizenship.” (Mike Huckabee, From Hope to Higher Ground, 2007, p. 117-118)

In Arkansas:

As Governor, Huckabee fought for in-state tuition and taxpayer funded scholarships for illegal immigrants. He opposed legislation to require proof of citizenship in order to obtain public benefits and to vote. He vocally opposed a raid on a factory in Arkansas that employed illegal immigrants. And he led an effort to bring a Mexican Consulate to Arkansas - one of the main functions of the Consulate would be to issue identification cards to Mexicans living, both legally and illegally, in the U.S.

Championed an effort in Arkansas to give in-state tuition at state colleges and taxpayer-funded scholarships to illegal immigrants, similar to the DREAM Act proposal at the federal level. (Laura Kellams, “Senators research U.S. law on aliens,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 1/27/05)

When Republican state senators in Arkansas proposed legislation modeled after Arizona’s Proposition 200 [to require proof of citizenship for voting and public benefits], “Huckabee described it as ‘inflammatory ... race-baiting ... demagoguery.’ He said the bill, which seeks to forbid public assistance and voting rights to illegal immigrants, ‘inflames those who are racist and bigots and makes them think there’s a real problem. But there’s not.’” (Governor says anti-illegals measure could scare off companies like Toyota,” A ssociated Press, 2/3/05)

Opposed a raid on illegal immigrants in an Arkansas poultry plant even though calls to his office were “about 1,000 to one” against his stance. (Melissa Nelson, “Huckabee Risks Political Fortunes To Denounce Immigration Raid,” Associated Press, 8/5/05)

Helped lead the effort to open a Mexican Consulate in Little Rock to issue Matricula Consular cards to Mexicans living in the U.S. (including those in the U.S. illegally). Many banks, including some in Arkansas, accept the card as a valid form of identification. (Jon Gambrell, “Ark. Candidates Criticize Mexican Matricula Cards,” AP, 10/18/06)

He was one of 50 Gov who all do the same thing. Regardless of what Huck did this guy should have been in jail for the felonies committed in Washington.

Why do the authorities who released this animal in WA get no press? politics?

From what I’ve read, at 0245 hours today a Seattle patrolman ended the problem by killing the a$$hat convict copkiller.

Huckabee released and pardoned more criminals while he was Governor of Arkansas than Bill Clinton did.

Huckabee’s nickname is “Huckster” and now you know why.

He said no one spoke out against granting clemency

Except, I guess, the judge and jury that convicted him.

In fairness, Huckabee acted 10 years ago and the guy was paroled by Washington state a week ago. Washington has a greater responsibility for the deaths of those officers than Huckabee.

I hope my link worked to the Arkansas Times story on how Huckabee was responsible for the Wayne Dumond parole. It details how influencial Huckabee was with his parole board.

And that's saying something.

“the political opportunism being seized by many here to advance their own candidate by denigrating Huckabee is deporable”

I did not say anything about any other candidate in my post. I did not say I “hate Huckabee”. I said he is a phony and I disagree with his decisions to free many violent criminals including Clemmons. I never said Huckabee was the whole problem, there are many other politicians who are even worse.

If you think pardoning violent offenders is good and that Huckabee was right in reducing Clemmons sentence and making him immediately eligible for parole then have the courage to say so.

Don't just make up lies about things I never said.

I think the main problem with the prison system is that no one in jail is a criminal. To the liberals that run the system, they are "victims" of someone's cruely, neglect, abuse, etc.

Until prisoners are seen as what they are, there will be many more stories like the one this weekend.

Pure blithering nonsense. “An otherwise decent person”.

I can assure you, he is not. He is a slimy snakeoil salesman who has conned person with his phony nice guy persona.

The Huckster has others do the dirty work for him, so he can project his nice guy image. He plays dirty politics, takes political payoffs, and lets dangerous criminals out of jail because a black preacher says he will deliver black votes if he does.

...Nobody ever granted clemency. Huckabee reduced the guys sentence from 97 to 43 years. The parole board which the Governor has no control over paroled him. After he was paroled he violated his parole and was sent back to jail and later on they paroled him again. Recently, in Washington, he was released on $15K bond following an arrest for child molestation. He had 8 felony arrests in Washington after he left Arkansas...

Now now, don't confuse people with the facts.

Sorry, I don't buy your pardon of Huckabee one bit. Sure there is allot of blame to go around, but Huckabee is not going to get off the hook. This is not the only bad apple he let go. There is quite a long list of them, and that has been common knowledge way back during his campaign.

I’m hardly trying to “pardon” him. I think he belongs on infomercials not in politics, but its the leftists who run Washington that are responsible for the killer’s parole.

No, two judges supported clemency.

There were two judges that convicted him? And they both wanted him to have clemency afterward? I didn't get that from the story, but if that's the case, they sure have a weird system in Arkansas.

I'm not beating up on Huckabee since, as you've proven, I don't know enough about the case. But in general, I'd say if a judge and jury convicts a murderer or a rapist, you'd better have all your ducks lined up with an explanation if you decide to overrule them and give clemency.
