In the event of war, we would be the ones controlling access to the Gulf. Since they are completely dependent upon oil exports for their national income, and gasoline imports to run its transport, they could not withstand a blockade for any length of time whereas we could selectively allow (and escort) the ships we choose to allow.

This is why we will have to be involved if anyone goes after Iran’s nuclear facilities. Not merely because the required number of sorties means that we would have to do it (we are the ones with air bases on at least three sides of Iran) but also because it will inevitably lead to a war for control of the Gulf. And because controlling the Gulf is putting your thumb on Iran’s carotid artery. Push, and they’ll hit you with everything they’ve got. Push a little longer and its lights out.
well i see a lot of plans and we are still tied down everywhere
