It certainly looks handsome to me. I wonder what's on the obverse. I always thought the Indian Head Nickel was the most handsome 20th Century U.S., or maybe any country's, coin. The Indian Head penny was handsome as well.

The problem with the Sacagawea and Susan B. Dollars, imho, was that they were so fugly, not the theme, size or demonination. The aluminum Loony and Twoony are handsome coins and met immediate acceptance by the Canadian public. It the Canadian mint had tried something as fugly as the previous U.S. efforts it probably would have met with the same reaction.

I wonder what's on the obverse.

They screwed it up. It makes her look like friggin' valley girl doing a Marie Antoinette playing milkmaid gig. Just horrible. I fully expect her to hop into an SUV and drive over to an "Honest Injun Souvenir Stand". Not as fugly as the previous efforts but it completely fails to convey any sense of pride or nobility. YUCKKKKKKK

I can't stand coins in my pockets - drives me nuts. Dollar coins would send me to an asylum.

I work part time in a numismatic shop and see some real beauties but I also see buckets of dollar coins come in for appraisal. No one wants them

With coins I do basically the same as you however I keep the silver separate from the copper and let it pile up all year long. First week of December I roll the silver, take it to the bank and the paper amount is what I use for Christmas money. The pennies get tossed into a coin machine at the supermarket.

Although this year it will be one slim Christmas roll in my pocket!

“Dollar coins don’t work for general circulation, it’s been proven time after time.”

I travel on business quite often to Canada. I gotta tell you, I really like using the one and two dollar coins they have up there. They just seem much more convenient and easier to use than paper money. But to make it work, the government of Canada phased out the paper versions.

Hey, I’ll tell you what.

You stop talking about the current purchasing value of the monetary units, and I’ll stop talking about the long-term value of our currency.

How’s that sound, smart guy?

“Dollar coins don’t work for general circulation, it’s been proven time after time.”

Considering a dollar buys about what a dime did when I was a kid, it’s not an economic issue.

I’m about done with pennies. I’ll never carry enough to buy anything, they can’t get you a Coke out of the vending machine and they weigh a ton when you’re carrying them to the bank.

If it wouln’t cost a bazzion bucks to change out the vending and coin counting infrastructure, I would say get rid of the penny, make the nickle penny sized, get rid of the dime, make the quarter nickle sized, make the dollar quarter sized and a 5 dollar coin the sized of the half dollar.

You could give a kid a coin to go down to the store and have them bring change back, that is until Obama is done, then we’ll be talking about the 20 dollar coin!

The only way Americans will buy into a dollar coin is if they bring back the silver dollar. Does anyone remember the Carter Quarter (aka the Susan B. Anthony dollar)?

You’re the one that said the Sacagawea dollar is only worth five cents. That’s BS, it is U.S. currency. I just said I’ll give you double what it is worth....smart? guy.

No.

Whenever I talk about the devaluation of US currency for the past nearly 100 years (losing fully 95% of its purchasing power), and how the PURCHASING POWER of our currency is about to fall off the cliff, some fiat-currency supporter who sees only “U.S. Currency” and not “FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE” makes the same comment, “if it’s so worthless, send me your money.”

I’ll tell you what.

I’ll send you a nice, shiny Sac. dollar in exchange for an old, beat up, tarnished Morgan or Peace silver dollar.

THAT is what I’m talking about.

You see, I want a sound US currency. But it is not currently sound. Because it is controlled by a central bank called the Federal Reserve, which is not a part of our government, is not run by people elected or appointed by the people, and over whom we have no oversight.

Their racket is to steal the value of our currency and the value of our currency (through a hidden tax called inflation) for the benefit of the banks within their international cartel.

They don’t give a rat’s ass about America and about the value of your assets and how much your working hours are worth.
