I don’t think so.... I did have my own kids do outside reading. Freedom —don’t think that was explained too much unless it related to slavery.
Newt never backed down from his support from Scozzafava. He didn’t even back down after she dropped out. He tried to put a happy face on it, but that was all. I can’t give you a link without a very time consuming trip back through threads and searches, but the facts are well known.
As to the blame for the NRCC members who appointed her, I’ve seen that on FR as well. But Newt being such a big name in Republican circles, he caught the brunt of the criticism, and rightly so in my estimation. Newt has been held as the father of contemporary conservatism. That stems from his speakership and his involvement in the Contract With America. But as others have pointed out, his dipping into the GW Kool Aid, his dealings with Pelosi, his misguided support for such a flaming liberal as Scozzafava, he’s lost his aura and is no longer a favorite around here.
Been down by the flood control dam lately?
That’s kinda what I thought too. It goes along with the libs whole “gotta rewrite history” thing
Is there a newt thread somewhere you could maybe visit? This ain’t a newt thread.
BUT what is it about calling conservatism dead, being a global warming supporter, supporting a candidate who coddles pedophiles and votes in favor of gay marriage don’t you understand?
What is it about going on Hannity and saying we had a right to be angry, and two days later he was defending scozzafava again has escaped your attention?
Did you also misss his dissing of Rush? I mean, come on. He has become what he campaigned against before he became what HE considers the defacto party leader and an elitist to boot. If we don’t follow HIS pearls of wisdom, WE are just the great, stupid, unwashed. Newt was a man for his time. His time has passed. Now he is seeking relevancy, and even if he is wrong, provably so, he defends his wrongness by calling everyone who disagrees with him wrong.
It’s sad.
You can say that again. I'm frankly surprised I haven't received a time suspension for some of the things I've said. But, I take it for only so long...
And congrats on your summation. It is a fine read and well stated. My hat is off to you.
I was hoping jimrob would show back up, maybe he got his fill of it last night. You guys are awesome...glad to be by your side.
Well, I haven’t seen any evidence of Newt wanting the other side to like him. I did read his explanation on why the ad and it sounded logical to me (http://newt.org/tabid/193/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/3351/Default.aspx). HE sounds logical to me. Unless or until someone can provide me with solid proof that he’s a DemocRat @ss kisser, I’ll have to respectfully disagree and refute.
Newt brought us Contract With America during the worst eight years this country has been through (IMO) ....(ahem, the worst so far). I just find it hard to believe that he could be magically transformed from a solid conservative to a RINO that easily and quickly.... and just because a few of you guys ‘say so’.
I’m am sooo not convinced, and God knows, we need all of the conservatives on our side that we can get. If Newt is really one of us, we need him. I’m going to get to the bottom of this. Some how. Some way.
Well if you’re going to throw out every Rep that chooses party (Republican Party, that is) loyalty over ...(what’s the alternative you’re expecting from him?)...
what’s gonna be left? Zip, Zilch and Nada.
So, according to you anti-Newters, Newt should have told the NRCC to F-off then. Right? Is that how you would have played it? Really? Cause I’m not even seeing you freepers blaming the NRCC. Just Newt.
Not necessarily.
I already said there were posts on FR condemning the actions of the NRCC. There were numerous ones. But Newt and the NRCC both have a dog to hunt in this issue, and neither one trumps the other. The NRCC was wrong to appoint Scozzafava in the first place, and Newt was equally wrong in blindly backing her; especially in the face of determined opposition. Both actions deserve condemnation from conservatives. Both received condemnation. And that's the end of the story.
How can it be the end of the story if Newt is a RINO? And if he isn’t a RINO, then he’s being unfairly targeted.
I just want to find out the truth and the ‘why’. I’m funny that way.
Thank you ~Kim4VRWC’s~. If you’d like to ping folks to it, be my guest. I don’t generally like to ping folks in on my comments directed to one Freeper, unless it is soundly germane to the thread.
I do think it related a very important message to those who write off states, but that’s my take on it.
I do appreciate that you seem to agree. I think it’s important.
Yes.
Courage is the test of all virtues. (C.S. Lewis said that.)
Without courage, RINO supporters may as well be enablers and assistants of leftists, because that is exactly what they turn out to be.
RINOS are worse than outright leftists, because they are just gradual leftists, while pretending to be something else. It’s better to be honest than sneaky.
“This has been one doozie of a thread!”
It surely has, but a lot of things that needed saying have been said here.
You know, the whole 6 months I was on the state message board arguing with a poster called Harvey, we never, ever disrespected each other no matter how intense our debate was, and most of us on this thread have also been respectful of each other, with a couple notable exceptions, which I believe was by design.
Thankfully, even with their constant disruptions, the meat of this thread is potent. We need to solidify our ideas, design a strategy or strategies, and move on them...like DJ’s idea, for example.
It’s a VERY good idea. Most of us have been sending back their begging letters with witticisms in or on them, but we haven’t really written letters they would read.
So do you believe that he backed someone without checking them? Or that he knew she's a lefty in disguise?
Then go and search to your heart's content. Just don't ask anyone to do your work for you.
