It's not true that the only good terrorist is a dead terrorist. Even dead terrorists aren't good. But at least they're dead.
And that helps.
But political correctness has possessed Washington. It's so bad that even Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who's done a great job in many other respects, parrots the cliché that "we can't kill our way out of this."
Well, folks, there's no other way out of this all-or-nothing struggle with fanatics. Three thousand years of history teach that there's no alternative -- none -- to killing fanatics in large numbers when your enemies are ablaze with religious zeal.

It is becoming clear that he might actually agree with the terrorists that America (and freedom) is the problem. Not fanatical islam.
Talk about hitting the nail on the head!!!

How sad. There is of course only one way to win a war and that is to kill more of them then they kill of you or to kill enough of them to have them surrender. Never been a war won in any other way. If we fought WW2 like we fight wars now we would either be speaking german/japanese or still fighting...
Ralph Peters should be the Defense Sec.
Bullseye, as usual, for Peters. We have grown weak.
My blood boils...just about every frigging day of this presidency. Everyday it’s something that makes you stop what you’re doing.
Bring our troops home. This facade that we’re in it to win is a disgrace. Bring our troops home now. This president hasn’t the guts to execute these terrorists, how can he fight a war?
Bring our troops home now.
Holder: Has no clue how
Islamist terrorists think.
That picture caption is gonna leave a mark.
I’ve had it with this mess. Our govt isn’t keeping its end of the deal, they collect our taxes for a military to keep us safe. They don’t protect us! No, they shave tax dollars off the defense budget... for the Ted Kennedy library, this pet project and that. NOW they want a TAX just for the war, why?! To hand out dollars to Taliban- so they put down their guns, yeah sure...that’s brilliant!
I’m sick of war that’s never really fought, only a huge vacuum to suck our tax dollars. Our troops are fired upon, and can’t fire back because they might harm an innocent. We should help those who help themselves. If they feared our troops, perhaps they would gather as a village and chase that Taliban away instead of giving them cover.
I want us to pull out because we have a President, a govt that is unwilling to FIGHT a WAR. I hesitate on that feeling though, as we can’t just hop back in later. It’s now or never.
I’m tired of being screwed by a greedy, spineless govt. I’m tired of watching our troops die for this non-sense and military families being destroyed by this dithering govt. Kids going extended periods without a parent, wives and husbands living as though a single parent. We have a useless govt bleeding us dry of our hard earned dollar and not living up to their end of the deal. It’s a disgrace!
Another great essay by RP!
For anybody that doesn’t know it, Peters is also a terrific novelist of many years, and his books are in every library. Recommended reading!
Our Country wont go on forever, if we stay soft as we are now. There wont be any AMERICA because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race!
-Lt. Gen. Lewis B. Chesty Puller, USMC
This is one of the most cogent editorials I’ve read in a long time.
I’ve only seen battles and skirmishes. The last wars we fought were Korea and WWII. It’s as if our leaders have forgotten what’s at stake or just don’t care!

After reading today the latest leak that our president is going to do what LBJ did in Viet Nam, fight war politicallly, I am now four square in agreement with you.
Bring our troops home now. NOW!!!!!
Screw this. Our congress are conniving to screw us over with higher taxes and less benefits.
Our freedoms are being whittled away because we can’t declare war on Islam terrorists.
We are a gutless society that are beginning to loathe each other because of politics.
You can say what you want about George Bush, but we all knew that his administration was not scheming against us.
If anything, he was to soft hearted, and too willing to compromise and trust the democrats.
We only have ourselves to blame for electing this complete inept loser.
He has 9...9!!!!! f...ing meetings with his cabinets before he decides in the end to committ 34,000 troops over the next year instead of now....???!!!
I’m sick of this!!!!
Mr. Peters is 100% correct. America lost her will to win wars after VJ Day. Restricted/limited warfare is meaningless. A “surgical strike” with precision weaponry is just a tactical advantage. Taking out a terrorist here or there is simply target practice. Wars are won when one side loses the will to fight and surrenders. Every means must be employed to force the enemy to lose that will. If we refuse to fully mobilize and get the job done (go in, destroy the enemy, get out), we must be prepared to endure continued (and escalating) attacks on our country and populace.
