Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this bill need ANOTHER 60 votes to stop debate afterwards and have a final vote? Isn’t that the one that Nelson and Leiberman have comitted to filibustering?
Yes - this vote just allowed them to bring the bill to the floor and begin debate. They will need another cloture vote (60 votes) to end debate and move to a final vote (51 votes).
If Reid pushes reconciliation he only needs 51 votes after todays vote.
Yes. People this is NOT THE VOTE that dooms us. All this does is allow the senate to debate the bill. The Republicans will debate this forever(filibuster) thereby killing the bill unless the Dems come up with 60 votes to stop debate at some point in the future(weeks from now0.
” Isnt that the one that Nelson and Leiberman have comitted to filibustering?”
They can “commit” to all they want; doesn’t mean they’ll follow through. I don’t trust a-one of them.
correct which is why I am curious as to why the newbie is telling us this is a done deal and lets move on
not over at all
I think Rush mentioned that if bills didn’t die in today’s vote, they had been passing a final vote around 97%. That’s not good. It needed to die today. Healthcare, indeed America, has probably stepped the 2nd foot over the slippery slope with today’s vote.
What if Reid decides to go with just 51 votes?
