Glenn Beck, the controversial Fox News television host, is planning on becoming more active in the populist conservative movement he spawned, according to sources familiar with his thinking.
At a rally Saturday at a massive retirement community in central Florida, Beck is planning to unveil what he has billed as a big plan for 2010, which is expected to involve the 9.12 Project, the group he started earlier this year and named for the day after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, when he says the nation was unified.
Coming this January, my whole approach changes on this program, he hinted cryptically on his Wednesday show. This next year is going to be critical and I think it's going to change and I think we are going to set it right, at least set our course right. And if that means the Democrats or the Republicans are destroyed along the way, well, good. Good.
Beck's Saturday rally, which is set for 3 p.m. will be broadcast live on Fox, and is timed to coincide with the kickoff of a tour promoting his new book, Arguing with Idiots.
After Beck unveiled his 9.12 Project, dozens if not hundreds of local 912 groups sprung up across the country and some have merged in purpose and tactics with the Tea Party movement of conservatives that exploded onto the scene this summer. Though the local 912 groups clearly look to Beck as their de-facto leader, they maintain no formal ties to Becks 9.12 Project.
The 9.12 Project is co-sponsoring a march on Washington on Sept. 11, 2010 partly to protest the policies of President Barack Obama and Congress. A source said the talk show host is not going to attend, but is planning to become more involved in 912 movement activities.
The 2010 march called the We the People Restore Our Constitution March, Rally and 9/11 Memorial is planned for Washingtons National Mall. Its other co-sponsor is an online activism group called ResistNet.com.
ResistNets Darla Dawald credited Beck with setting in motion the march, but said hes not involved in its planning. Glenn doesnt want it to be about him always about the people, Dawald, who is leading march planning for ResistNet, wrote in an email. He wanted the 9.12 Project people (grassroots) to be involved and step forward not him.
Christine Drawdy, a Florida event promoter involved in the Tea Party and 912 movements who is listed as the travel coordinator for the 2010 march, said the permit for the march is in the name of The 9.12 Projects administrator, Yvonne Donnelly.
Though Drawdy stressed that Beck is not the leader of the 912 movement, she added all he has to do is say something and theyll jump.
ResistNets Dawald said she was asked to join the march planning effort by Donnelly, who works with Beck on the 9.12 Project website but did not respond to an email message.
Beck has emerged as a potentially potent populist force in conservative politics, as evidenced by the response to his broadcast in March urging viewers to try to recreate a united America, calling out politicians for leading the nation astray, and unveiling the 9.12 Project.
Local 912 groups sprang up, and many credited Becks on-air promotions with the huge turnout at the Sept. 12, 2009 Taxpayer March on Washington, where some waved Glenn Beck for President and said Beck spurred them to become politically active for the first time.
But Becks 9.12 Project played no role in sponsoring or planning this years march, nor did he attend it. He has mostly not involved himself personally in any of the 912 movement activities, and has downplayed characterizations that he is leading the movement.
Nonetheless, Fox News has drawn fire from media ethicists and liberals alike for breathlessly promoting Tea Party marches, and for whipping up the crowd at the Sept. 12 rally.
The 912 Project website, which is maintained by Mercury Radio Arts, Becks production company but hosted by Fox News, lists the march among many other upcoming 912 events, and provides a link for subscribers to sign up.
The FoxNews.com logo adorns the lower right hand corner of the 912 Project homepage, which indicates it is Brought to you by FOXNews.com and links to the networks website.
Publicists for Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts did not respond to questions about the announcement, or the roles of Beck, Fox or Mercury in The 9.12 Project or planning the march.
Live on FOX at 3? Really? Not on my network...they are broadcasting yesterday’s Flynn interview.
This article said that Beck’s “plan” would be broadcast live on Fox News, but Fox News is showing a re-run of his TV show. Anybody know what’s going on?
so far it’s a repeat of yesterday’s show with Vince Flynn
the best laid plans o’ mice and men gang oft astray....
Wonder what’s up?
Yeah you really don't get it.
1.) Why do we HAVE to organize to take back the GOP? Did it ever cross your mind even once that taking back the GOP has never been a goal for most of us?
2.) If taking back the GOP is a prerequisite for starting a third party, then there inherently isn't a need for a third party.
So in the end you only care about controlling the GOP. And many of us hate the GOP so much that we don't want to ever be a part of it.
The funny thing is this movement is strong enough to take over the GOP.... but guess what? We don't want to. We would rather start from scratch than deal with idiots like Lindsey Graham.
Thanks for the heads up - listening to Glenn and Vince Flynn (for the 3rd time) GREAT interview!!
Weird - - - just a Beck replay - - - I missed the beginning - was any explanation given?????
>>The Postman .. is that from Lucifer’s Hammer? (GREAT book)
I just clicked on the article, nowhere does it say it will be broadcast live on Fox.
The ONLY thing a 3rd party does is guarantee the election of Democrats. We saw that in the 1990s with the Reform party.
Here is what always happens. You dogmatic purist form your 3rd party. Then an issue comes along that your party splits on. So being dogmatic purists, some of you split off and form a 4th party while the rest carry on. Then another issue comes up and some for of you split off to form a 5th party. And so on and so on and so on.
The only thing 3rd partyites establishes is complete political irrelevance for the 3rd partiers
Direct from the link of the article Beck's Saturday rally, which is set for 3 p.m., is timed to coincide with the kickoff of a tour promoting his new book, Arguing with Idiots.
The way I read it, Glenn and Sarah are not for a 3rd party.
They ARE for choosing Conservative candidates, regardless of party.
The article from Politico says live, but maybe they got bad info.
quote—The Postman .. is that from Lucifers Hammer? (GREAT book)—end quote
LOVE “Lucifer’s Hammer”. One of my all-time favorite books!!!
Freeper Junction posted the thread.
I know you mean well, but think about what you’re saying:
You want to tear down the GOP then turn around and rebuild it. Why not just start from scratch and build what you like from the beginning?
The time and effort it would take to clean out that rat infested run down crack house, that is the GOP, is ridiculous. And after spending around 10 years cleaning it out we’re to then spend another 4 or 5 years building it back up?
It’s smarter to just spend 10 years building a beautiful cathedral of freedom and liberty from scratch.
I read the article just a few minutes ago trying to get some info on what’s going on and I didn’t see anywhere that said it would be on Fox live. Hmmmm.........
I pledge allegience to the United States of America and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands...
I am, therefore, a Republican. Moderates, middle-of-the-roaders, liberal-leaners, reach-across-the-aislers, Michael Steele, and RINOs make up the third party. They need the third party label.
So which Leftist clown posse do you work for?
Who is paying you to come here and spew this absurd disinformation and self-defeating propaganda?
Organizing for America? The Democrat National Committee? Moveon.org. SEIU? Colors of Change? So which Leftist organization do you work for?
Or is it possible that you are really just this politically stupid?
So which is it, political fraud or political fool?
