For every BS charge of racism and insensitivity that comes out, occasionally they get one right. This pic has no business in an Algebra sheet.
Exactly. Stupid decision on the part of the teacher.
Why would an image like that be on an Algebra sheet???? Highly insensitive and racist.
She should have pointed out that the image is in poor taste and has nothing to do with algebra.
“Spending the weekend in tears” and pulling the child from school “until he is safe” is BS drama. Pullin the NAACP into it is ridiculous to boot.
Agreed.
I agree with you two. If opposing Obama’s Marxism isn’t racist — and it isn’t — this picture, on an assignment in a school, is.
Agreed.
If it were a white man, I'd still find it offensive on a class room paper.
In a magazine or whatever, no one is forced to look at it. In a classroom, the kids have no choice.
I agree. That is really offensive.
Absolutely right. I was expecting much ado about nothing. Putting this is in a school assignment was repulsive and thoroughly offensive. The product of an ugly mind.
Yeah, but does the “victim” deserve a million dollars for it?
Or should the teacher be punished?
You know where this is headed...to a trial lawyer.
“For every BS charge of racism and insensitivity that comes out, occasionally they get one right. This pic has no business in an Algebra sheet”.
Agree.
Well, this pic doesn’t belong in any kind of teaching material. I can’t imagine that a publisher would make an error like this - they’re very, very careful about what goes into the books and ancillary materials and they don’t want to offend anyone. This is awful and I’d love to see who produced it.
Now, having said that, I doubt that the students were being intentionally racist. This woman should calm down and teach her son that his feelings will sometimes be hurt and there may not always be someone there to “protect” him.
agreed.........this is a legitimate complaint, and should be treated as such...but with all the BS complaints out there, this will just be filed as just another boy cries wolf story..
I am wondering if the teacher or publishers put it there. ( I will now go on to read the whole article.)
By the way, Saxon Math books have **no** photos whatsoever. NONE! Why are these educators trying to be “cute” about mathematics?
This is the ugliest thing I have ever ever seen in or out of a school setting.
I gotta agree with you.
I agree that it should no be on a worksheet (any homework). But it is not racist. And as far as insensitive goes to bad. I find the whole Congress offensive and so do many others.
