So riding a train is a civil right? With Obama in charge, I believe it.

I take BART every day, this is the Liberal retardation that somehow “the poor” are good and the “rich” are bad...well, not with Boxer, Feinstein, Pelosi, Clinton, Obama or Al Gore...

This is clinically insane.

Where, exactly, is it that the “minority” riders want to go?

Lawsuits abound because roads and bridges are built with Federal dollars, even though some folks don’t own a car!!

Racist, discrimination. Where’s the ACLU???

The BART system has been unfair to East county residents for over 40 years. Residents of Eastern Contra Costa county have been paying the increased sales tax levied throughout the county to pay for the system although BART does not extend to this area.

All right all you rich guys who want to ride BART to the airport— get back in your big ol’ SUVs and drive yourselves.

But, really, this is so silly. If rich people take BART to the airport, then many working poor people will also be going to the airport every day on BART. A lot of poor people work at or near the airport, doing menial labor associated with the premises, the surrounding hotels and businesses. The only reason they wouldn’t is if the bus turns out to be a lot cheaper and more convenient.

To the airport... to panhandle, no doubt.

We have to sdtart filing lawsuits in every jurisdiction complaining that all these “entitlements” unfairly benefit minoroties and low income.

The problem as I see it is that we dont have any advocates for our causes like these people do.

I doubt this is the real reason. If you look at other countries airports, you'll note that ground mass transit is commonly connected (Frankfurt being one of the best examples). In the US, not so much. Sure SFO has BART right in the terminal, but Oakland has pressure not to do so. You have to get on a bus to transfer from BART to OAK. Odd. Still, that's the way it is.

Reagan is an example of a fine connection to the subway. PHX has some of their terminals set up for light rail, if the tracks ever reach the airport. Most of the others have an occasional busline serving the airport, but it's a pain to use.

As to poor people being discriminated against? Come on, OAK is Southwest territory. Some of the cheapest airfares in the world. If you think about the squawk, it doesn't make any sense at all.

Mass transit to the airport makes a huge amount of sense from a traveler's standpoint. I'll pick SFO over OAK for that exact reason.

Airports that work well, with mass transit, include Gatwick, Heathrow, Hong Kong (the Octopus Card is cool), Reagan, SFO, Frankfurt and I'm sure there are plenty of others that I haven't used. If you utilize good public transit at an airport, you're generally sold on it. Problem is that most US airports don't have it, so it's tough to form much of an opinion on it domestically.
