With Democrats still grappling with the fallout of an abortion-rights deal that allowed the House to pass its health care bill last weekend, a key Democrat is predicting that abortion-rights supporters will have the votes to keep new abortion restrictions out of the final bill.
On ABCNews.coms Top Line today, Rep. Diana DeGette, co-chairman of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, said opposition is growing to the House-approved amendment authored by Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich.
She said the Senate is seeking out compromise language that wont go as far as the House -- and said President Obamas team is absolutely helping press for a different path in the final bill.

Stupak has gone above and beyond to protect life, republcians have supported him and we must do all we can to ensure the senate and house do not strip it out.
Don't get me wrong I do not want the bill at all but I certainly want the Stupak ammendment to remain.
The Democrats were fundamentally dishonest when they passed the bill in the House with the Stupak Amendment. They knew, even at the time, that they were going to strip that language from the bill.
The question is, how will they have the votes to pass the final bill when that emerges from conference with the Stupak Amendment stripped way when they only had 50% plus two on the original bill? Maybe 50% plus one, if Hoffman wins in NY-23. If they lose two votes by stripping away Stupak, isn’t the conference bill dead?

Thanks RINO’s Newt, Dede and the RINO GOP party hacks in NY-23 for losing that seat. I think the bill would have died if Doug Hoffman had one. Newt sickens me.
If you get a chance to see Stupak on this evening’s version of “Hairball” with Lil’ Chrissy, watch his “interview” with Stupak, and THEN tell me how hard he is willing to fight for the language to stay in the bill.
Lil’Chrissy “lawyered” his way to make Stupak look like he gave his “final answer” with his pants AND his underwear down around his ankles, with Lil’ Chrissy ready to call Axelrod RIGHT THEN with the “just discovered” news.
They still can't figure out that conservatives are the majority. DC's unemployment rate will be higher than the nation, come next election.
I’m not sure whether Stupak was used by Pelosi, or he collaborated with her. I suspect the latter. I have always thought Stupak was a fraud, running as a moderate to get elected in a somewhat conservative district, then voting as a lib and hiding it.
The female senator said yes, and said that stupak was going to have great opposition.
I can only wonder what Chris tells God when he goes for Sunday communion .... hard for me to understand a church that allows member's communion even when they do not believe or try to tell folks that abortion is OK
The bill must be opposed whether it contains abortion language or not.
It is anathema to the American free market economy and personal liberty.
The government has no business in this business.
Period.
I agree!!!
Correct and the republicans took the bait hook line and sinker. They could have killed the whole thing by voting with the democraps on this.
Wholeheartedly agreed.
Besides, the Dems will simply re-introduce the abortion criteria and such during conference, albeit, they will disguise the language.
My beloved says it has to do with different parishes, that the Pope doesn't get involved and thus you have folks in the democratic party that are pro abortion, that go to Mass, take the communion and look like hypocrites.
A Kennedy comes to mind that was recently chastised that if you want to be pro abortion than leave the church, I think finally that is going in the right direction that is if you want to be a practicing Catholic where their tenants are “life” and even oppose the death penalty.
Oh yeah, that is where they find solace can't save a baby's life but oh let's save the life of oh a terrorist — a democrat rep today said even a terrorist killed by the state was wrong but will fight for a woman to have an abortion.
Gonna dash to check out the show .....
When they answer "Yes", they he pulls out the "Hypocrite Card" and the discussion ends with Lil'Chrissy pretending to have won the debate.
When the lib lady said she was against the death penalty, the "good Catholic boy" Lil' Chrissy didn't follow up with: "Well, are you for abortion????"
Geezzz...it's not so hard to figure out who's the REAL hypocrite.....
No problem. Obama promised he would not sign a bill that covered abortion.
...And Barack Obama’s word is as good as _____________________.
The Demwits’ steady downward slide in the polls puzzles analysts.
And the traitorous prick Axlerodent thinks he can stroll past the gallows and not be hanged.
Good luck with that, fat boy.

For so long as we have a Democrat controlled House, they will whip up as many votes as the leadership needs. The Dems were so determined to have an ObamaCare bill pass, Nancy Pelosi would have voted for Stupek if that were the trade off.
They knew between the Senate and Conference, it would be watered down. When it comes back from Conference, some who were allowed (or encouraged) to vote for Stupek and against the main bill will switch their votes in favor of having the overall bill pass.
One more Republican wouldn’t have made a bit of difference .. they control the votes and who’s allowed to vote for and against what.
