Sgt. Kimberly D. Munley has been applauded as a hero across the nation for shooting down Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan during the bloody rampage at Fort Hood last week. The account of heroism, given by the authorities, attracted the attention of newspapers, the networks and television talk shows.
But the story of how the petite police officer and the accused gunman went down in an exchange of gunfire does not agree with the account of an eyewitness who had gone to the base’s processing center, where the shooting occurred, to conduct business before being deployed.
The witness, who asked not to be identified, said Major Hasan wheeled on Sergeant Munley as she rounded the corner of a building and shot her, putting her on the ground. Then Major Hasan turned his back on her and started putting another magazine into his semiautomatic pistol.
It was at that moment that Senior Sgt. Mark Todd, a veteran police officer, rounded another corner of the building, found Major Hasan fumbling with his weapon and shot him.
How the authorities came to issue the original version of the story, which made Sergeant Munley a national hero for several days and obscured Sergeant Todd’s role, remains unclear. (Military officials also said for several hours after the shooting that Major Hasan had been killed, although he had survived.)
Six days after the deadly shooting rampage at a center where soldiers were preparing for deployment, the military has yet to put out a full account of what happened.
At a news conference outside the post on Wednesday, Lt. Col. John Rossi refused to take questions about who shot Major Hasan or why the initial reports said it had been Sergeant Munley rather than Sergeant Todd.

I don’t know why folks seem to be getting their knickers in a twist about this. Ms. Munley isn’t the one crowing about her deeds. And from what I read in earlier reports, Hasan shot HER first, so it’s likely her return fire either didn’t hit him at all, or was not effective. But she DID slow Hasan down, and distract him, so that her partner could get the effective shots off. Sounds like they worked as a good team.

You got it right, SuziQ. SGT Todd was the first one to pump lead into the terrorist, and he and SGT Munley did perform as a team. They spared countless lives. God bless them.

That is an eye witness who was there.
It’s possible that Munley shot at Hasan, but if he got the shot off, and hit her first, her shot might not have connected. Because she engaged him, and he shot her, he had to reload, and that gave her partner the chance to take Hasan down. So what Todd said is right, even though he may have been the one to actually take Hasan down.
American heros come to mind. And so much for multiple shooters being involved. It is nice to see the authorities going public as quickly as they have with the intent to charge this prick in the deaths of thirteen people. Hope his military trial is quick and just. No use bull shitting around and letting some lawyer try to pull some crap off.

My understanding was and is that Munley shot him first then Todd downed him.
Furthermore, why is anyone but the Muslims having a problem with her being the heroine? I could easily understand their frustration with a little wisp of a woman demonstrating the courage and training of a US lady policewoman!!!
Her humiliation of this tormented terrorist has exposed still more cowardice of those chickenchits who would be terrorists in the future. Her fellow Sergeant sat quietly right next to her with a stowic straight face and backed her story on national TV to the hilt!!!
