President Obama's victory dance yesterday for the House-passed health-care bill came as Senate foes -- mainly Republicans with one key Democrat moderate -- pronounced the measure mortally wounded, if not outright DOA.
Speaking from the Rose Garden after the squeaker 220-215 Saturday-night vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and "take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people."
Instead, he met with immediate resistance.
If a government plan is part of the deal, "as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote," Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent whose vote Democrats need to overcome a GOP filibusters, told "Fox News Sunday."
Lieberman said he was concerned about new government spending the health-care legislation would entail, saying deficits have gotten gargantuan. "I don't want to do that to our children and grandchildren," he said.

Ping.
I have a chilling question to anyone...
What agency will be enforcing who must pay and decides the punishment for those that cannot?
I doubt the IRS will have the manpower, more than likely this will be where Obamas secret little army will materialize.
Besides Senator Lieberman’s opposition, there’s also the fact the Senate version of the bill has significant differences from the barely-passed House bill. And Senator Harry Reid is right now doing a major high-wire balancing act wondering should he try to push any health care bill forward now or wait until the beginning of 2010 and have it done by April-May 2010.
The IRS, like every other agency, is going to be vastly expanded, and I’m sure they will have all the manpower they need. As for enforcement of their decisions, I would suspect that would just be done by local authorities who would go out and arrest those people who hadn’t paid the 2.5% tax.
Maybe the IRS and Bambi’s army will jointly run the hundreds of prison camps necessary to punish the offenders, however, because they’d have to be federal for that type of “crime.” But once we’re all locked up in the IRS jails, then where’s he going to get the money?
not always. he voted to confirm Clarence Thomas despite what for that time was quite a mean-spirited liberal high-tech lynching. Joe did not go along with the posse then.
If the Obama minions, the House and Senate see very little in anger and angst for passing this Obamanation in the House, the Senate will easily pass this bill.
So far, they haven’t been too worried.
Personally I think if a million people were to suddenly show up at the IRS head office to turn themselves in because the absolutely refuse to pay for the healthcare pogrom I think it would start an amazing trend across America.
Every major city suddenly muststop all activities to process thousands of arrested non-payers.
The system will choke on its own vomit.
We can shut down America.
Thank God for Joe Lieberman!
What is it about the name “Joe”
Joe Lieberman?
Joe Wilson?
Joe Arpeo?
Anyway, GO JOE!
This bill is a clear and deliberate violation of the Constitution being pushed thru congress without any meaningfull debate, using all sorts of deceit and subterfuge. those pushing it are either ignorant, stupid or purposely lying and misrepresenting (or any combination of thereof) what’s in these bills. Any rep or senator that votes for this should be dragged from his office and tarred and feathered.
I really think that if they get this thing through, you’re right and resistance to it will simply collapse the US. Many people won’t pay the tax on principle and others can’t pay it because they don’t have the money to pay it even though their income may be a middle class (even, say, $45,000) income. They’re already paying high taxes, the Bush tax cuts are going to expire, property taxes and local taxes are soaring, and they are probably in debt for credit card bills that will never go away because the interest rates have risen so high and so fast. So where is the IRS going to squeeze it out of them?
The fact that this money simply isn’t there in many cases leads me to think that the whole point of this thing is to punish people - not only the wildly “successful” who are very well off, and can probably buy their way out of it, but mostly the people who run small businesses or go to work every day and try to advance in their jobs, etc. We’re Obama’s enemies, and this is basically just a way for him to get an excuse to legally repress us. He regards people in this group as the kulaks, the successful peasants whom the Russian Communists managed to demonize as enemies of the people.
But you’re right, I think there’s simply too many of us for him to succeed.
It will be the IRS according to what I’ve read.
One of the big drivers of masssive cost over-runs is the habit of ignoring the expense of administering any given project. The IRS is not equipped to be the billing and collection agency for this abomination... not now. But they will be. Expect a hiring orgy that lasts ten years or so, making them the biggest government agency in human history. And the new authority they'll be given will make them the most dangerous as well.
What is it about the name Joe
