House Democrats have cleared an impasse over abortion that has been holding up a vote on sweeping health care legislation.
A vote is expected on Saturday - after President Barack Obama makes a late morning trip to the Capitol to make one final pitch for the legislation.
According to Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan, he and other abortion opponents will be given a chance to insert tougher abortion restrictions into the legislation during debate on the House floor.
The leadership hopes that no matter how that vote turns out, Democrats will then unite to give the health care bill a majority over unanimous Republican opposition.

I'm continuing to pray:-)
Pelosi and Obama have a lot of *tools* at their disposal to change minds. I so want you to be correct about this. I can think of nothing more wonderful than having this house bill killed this weekend!
In protest, we could all pick one day and yank all our money out of the bank in the form of a cashier check.
Of course, this could be considered conspiracy to commit treason as it might destroy the US banking system if enough people did that.
Keep calling and reminding your representative that you are against the plan. That and all of our prayers just might get us through this. :)
Which would be removed in conference. duh.
Thanks again :-)
Not getting any sleep tonight either because of this monstrosity. :(
I find that when I attempt sleep, i remember more vivid details about the bill I read today, and “what could happen 5 years from now” if we let it pass.
So far, in the House, none that I know of are supporting this. How many will vote for it without saying they will? Who knows.
None. Boehner says the whole GOP is voting no.
This is a Dem debacle
I haven’t slept well in a year. Wish I was exagerating, but, I am not. I sympathize, and wish you well deserved rest.
Looks like the soapbox is no longer an option.
So, what will be the Republican strategery on the abortion amendment? Vote in favor of it so that in the event the whole debacle ends up getting passed at least the Hyde amendment provisions apply? Or vote to defeat the amendment to put all the blue dogs in the position where they’re voting in favor of health care “reform” that includes abortion coverage?
Let them own it. We’ll have to clean up their messes, but we’ll get the country back.
A friend told me that until you hear that the bill is passed or defeated, you should still call your rep., even if it’s Saturday and Sunday.
Obama wouldn’t be going to make this pitch unless he was sure they had the votes.
Hmmm. But that’s what they said about the Copenhagen Olympics trip. Do you think he’s arrogant enough to make that same mistake again?
We shall see.
Even those dim opposing the bill will be the targets of our rath as they did nothing to kill the bill until now which I figure is only cover for reelection.
If they’re really only interested in re-election, which i don’t doubt for a second, they won’t let “tweaking” the abortion wording stop them from voting no.
People care about that issue, yes, but they just don’t like this entire concept of the government taking over and controlling another industry, especially one as important and personal to people as the medical industry. If the RATS aren’t getting that, they are either too dumb to be in Congress or totally detached from the real world. Probably both.
I wish it were just a “debacle”, but it’s treason.
Abortion = state-sponsored execution
Since when was being inconvenient a crime punishable by death?
Abortion is not healthcare, it is killing.
