I haven't been involved since before that date, so I wouldn't know. It certainly surprises me, that they would giving access to classified government information, to people that have no need to see it. I certainly doubt that our current president would have ever qualified to get any sort of government security clearance if he wasn't elected president.

You still need to have need to know, but the investigation was there to hunt for spies and other problems.
