When I was a kid my parents had a friend at Wright Patterson AFB. I don’t think the guard was civillian but once he knew us he just waved us through.
I believe his name was Dallas.
Most of these bases/posts have civilian guards now days! Amazing!!!
We live at Kings Bay in the early 80’s and not only would they check ID’s (even the kids at times), they’d get the German Shepherd dogs out and sniff search the cars. We’d all have to get out of the car and stand to the side. And of course, you never knew when this would take place.
