Political newcomer Leitzell pulls off upset of two-term incumbent McLin (Dayton's Dem Mayor Loses)

Challenger Gary Leitzell defeated incumbent Mayor Rhine McLin on Tuesday in the race for Dayton’s next mayor.

According to final, unofficial totals from the Montgomery County Board of Elections, Leitzell had 51.5 percent of the votes to 48.5 percent for McLin, a Democrat. That amounted to 14,923 votes for Leitzell and 14,045 for McLin.

Folks, this is pretty stunning. Leitzell ran as an I with the endorsement and recruitment of the local GOP. This was more a backlash against McLin than a statement about Leitzell, whose policies are pretty unknown except "not her."

Combine this with the Albuquerque mayoral race a couple of months ago, and a trend is emerging.

I wouldn’t have hired that woman to wash my car, she was so incompetent. I moved back to Austin in part because of Dayton’s direction. How about those commercials on 95.7 (or 1290 am) that talk about how some garage hired two people, then they end with: “See! Dayton’s not dead yet!”

I’m in Centerville and was shocked to hear the results. McLin was just the typical liberal mayor/gov/pres that have destroyed America. Dayton is moving to becoming the Detroit with its’ failed education system and promoting big govt socialism. Although I was born & raised in Dayton, I’m looking to relo far away - too hopeless here.

Yes, they moved their corporate headquarters to Atlanta (the vast majority of the jobs). Their only profitable branch in Dayton (Teradata) was spun off and is now independent and still in Dayton. NCR still has a small batch of employees in Dayton. I believe the University of Dayton is purchasing the NCR HQ building (it’s right next to campus).

Dayton didn’t change with the times or the economy. They screwed themselves with dem stooges.

I am in Centerville too. I thought it would be a close race but was shocked at the outcome. McLin lost a lot of major companies on her watch. The tax structure makes it nearly prohibitive to survive in Dayton. If we can get Strickland out of office next, we may have a real shot at turning some things around for Ohio.

I interviewed with them over 15 to 20 years ago out of college. The local branch manager bragged about how he was hiring his daughter! It seems like nepotism was an issue there.
