I think you are confusing a number of issues here. I think Megan McCain is too.

Your and certainly Megan’s misogynistic characterization of these comments is not very accurate IMO.

Is it right for folks to trash someone based on their weight? I don’t think so, but the conclusion you folks have jumped to is no more appropriate than the conclusion of the folks who made fun of Simpson. At least they have a reason for what they do. You two don’t.

The media plays up these people (the entertainers) to the point of being pseudo-gods in our society. Nothing they do is wrong. All their abysmal behavior is played off as just the silly machinations of the beautiful people. Even if they get caught being pedophiles or exhibiting some other abysmal behavior, their star status absolves them.

Sure people are going to ridicule this group of people. And it doesn’t surprise me that some of them go overboard to do it, based on the false god status the media has sought to grant them.

Is criticism of Jessica Simpson evidence of an across the board misogynistic mindset? Absolutely not.

A misogynist does not respect women. That means most all women, with very few if any exceptions. Ridiculing Simpson isn’t proof that someone hates all women.

Once again, a leftist mindset has to be activated to come to the conclusion both of you came to. I for one, don’t agree with you.

As for putting down fat people, I don’t agree with doing it. There are a lot of people who are overweight. I am one of them. That being said, I know that if I watch my p’s and q’s, I can control my weight. So I have to admit, that I am exhibiting self-destructive behavior.

There’s a movement today that seeks to deny this reality. I’ll have no part of it. I could control my situation if I used better judgment. If I were to deny that, I would be no better than minority groups that seek to blame everyone else for their problems, or simply dismiss their problems as if they weren’t problems.

Being fat is not a good thing. It is my fault that I am fat. It is not healthy for me to be fat. I do take ownership of it.

If someone doesn’t like seeing fat people being put down, because they are heavy themselves, there is (in most instances) something they can do about it. Blaming others isn’t the answer.

Gentlemen and gentlewomen don’t put people down based on their personal weaknesses as long as those weaknesses don’t harm others. That’s why I think it’s wrong to put down fat people in public.

Am I now a misogynist because I recognize that I have a weight problem and think it’s ridiculous that I haven’t done something about it? Ah, no. I’m a guy. If I were a woman, the same answer would be appropriate.
