The scariest story told this Halloween week had nothing to do with ghosts, goblins, or zombies, though it was certainly dripping with huge gobs of Gore. In fact -- the most terrifying words screeched in the past seven days came from the master of environmental horror himself.
According to Arab Internet services company Maktoob.com, our favorite greenhouse gasbag spent Tuesday afternoon outlining the reasons why attendees of the Leaders in Dubai Business Forum must change their wicked gas-guzzling ways:
The North Pole ice cap is 40 percent gone already and could be completely and totally gone in the winter months in the next 5 to 10 years.
Such thaw, cautioned Gore, could increase sea levels by 67 metres and that each one metre of sea level rise (SLR) is associated with 100 million climate refugees in the world. Thats up a full 47 meters from the already horrifying predictions hes made previously.
Incidentally, a climate refugee (or environmentally induced migrant as the UN would prefer we refer to them) is a person forced to move to a new country by global warming related environmental disasters. Where the whacky climate refugees per meter SLR figure came from is anybodys guess.
Anyway, if my math is correct, the 2007 Nobel laureate effectively predicted that by 2020, the oceans could rise 220 feet and 6,700,000,000 people will be forced to wander the planet in search of a less soggy domicile.
And the journey wont be easy, what with much of the planet underwater and its entire population -- which Gores 6.7 billion amounts to -- vying for whatever dry land remains available.
But before we pack our tents, inflatable rafts, and foreign-language dictionaries, lets take a closer look at the green Stephen Kings figures.

Yes - Strings longer and straighter - Excellent
Mucho easier for cropping and adapting as you just said
- Bad Year blimp - etc.
LOL!
Yes, I recall discussing it under the moon map poster in the lab. Since we're due for glacial advance sometime, it wouldn't be surprising. Of course, that means that even a steady temperature would be breaking the natural trend.
Of course, climate variation occurs on many scales, both timescales and amplitudes.
The solution always comes from some government slug who's motives I always question.
Your solution, maybe...not mine.
Do you think that the improvements made by man are going to melt the ice in Greenland?
No. I think that it's possible the natural climate variation enhanced by man's activity might do it sometime soon ("soon" could be thousands of years). But it might not. Those who claim to know one way or the other are being too sure.
If you do then you sir are an idiot. Or at least niave.
~p
~q, either, even if it doesn't follow syllogistically.
[- Bad Year blimp - ]
Cute!
They have been shoveling record early amounts of global warming all over the western US this fall.
Wow Al Gore really aged quite a bit there. He used to be pretty good looking when he was running for President.
Lol, people would kinda get a ‘crook’ in their neck reading it if you were moving........snicker.
Gore is bananas!
Where is he going to get all that water from? - The whole ice-melt, sealevel rise proposition is nuts to begin with. Most of the ice on Earth is already floating in the oceans, and when it melts it shrinks. There is almost enough ice on antartica to cause a seven inch rise in the oceans, but were it warm enough to melt that, there would be considerably more vapor contained in the atmosphere.
The supposed solution is what I meant and I'm quite sure you already knew that. Why on earth would we allow drastic changes to our lifestyle, financial stability and liberty to a theory that is definitely in question?
If I were you the only concern I would have is losing liberty on a false premise. The earth has warmed and cooled many times before "The Industrial Revoloution". It happened when man wasn't even in the picture.
LOL, yes that’s so true. It’s amazing how far a crock like that has gotten!
I don't know...tell me, please.
Yeah...Arab Internet services company Maktoob.com is such a reliable source, eh?
I'm quite certain you don't.

“Albore doesn’t know much about math.”
I think whoever wrote this article, or supplied them with information is seriously misguided. Maybe he said 200 centimeters. This would be between 3 and 4 meters which is pretty much what some scientists have said in the past for the whole century. At some time since the end of the last ice age, sea levels were as much as 8 feet above their current level.
Saying that each meter rise could cause 100,000,000 climate refugees is probably correct. Many millions would have to move in Bangladesh and Pacific and Indian Ocean Islands. New Orleans, Miami, and others of our cities would have major problems. Holland would probably not make it. I am not saying I believe this will happen, merely that the consequences if it did are probably correct.
The writer says that 6.7 billion people would become climate refugees. That is the entire population of the world for heaven’s sake. There are large areas of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americans that would be above water, even with 220 feet, which no one has been predicting.
I sincerely doubt that even Al Gore said these ridiculous things, except the effects of 1 meter which is probably about right. Why do some people have to muck up serious arguments with such ridiculous “facts”.
“Are we sure this isn’t from the Onion or Scrappleface?”
No, it is from an Arab Internet Service, listed by name in the second paragraph of the story. Why would anyone here believe anything from an Arab Internet Service?
