Former Bush State Department official Liz Cheney diplomatically slammed Barack Obama today for imposing on grieving military families by bringing the White House press corps and photographers with him to Dover Air Force Base last night to receive the bodies of 15 soldiers and 3 DEA agents killed in Afghanistan this week.
Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit reported Cheney's remarks made on John Gibson's Fox radio show today. Here is a corrected version of the partial transcript posted at Gateway Pundit.
I don't know why he went to Dover. I mean I think that clearly it is very important for our commander in chief whenever he can, in whatever way possible to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, our fallen miltary folks.
But I think, you know what President Bush used to do is to do it without the cameras. And I dont understand sort of showing up with the White House Press Pool with photographers and asking family members if you can take pictures. I just, thats really hard for me to get my head around. I think its an honorable and important thing for us to pay tribute. Theres no greater sacrifice people make to the nation. But...it was a surprising way for the president to choose to do it.
I would also point out the best way to pay tribute to those who sacrifice is to win the war.
17 of the 18 families of the fallen denied Obama his photo op at Dover.
ABC News reports that 14 of the families were at Dover last night and met in private with Obama.
Unfortunately, at this point, this doesn't give rise to the least bit of surprise in me.
There was never any question, from any quarter, that Ronald Reagan supported our armed forces 100%.
That's my belief. I'm sticking with it. I've drawn a line in the sands of political cynicism and I refuse to cross it.
Thanks that needed to be said.
There are unfortunately a lot of people at FR who are proving that Not-my-President Derangement Syndrome is a disease of left and right.
Everything the President does is news and everything he does is political. He could be attacked for not doing this and is equally attacked for doing it. But it is something that the POTUS should indeed do.
Yes, he should have done it, but left the press corp at the Whitehouse. The man is despicable.
Ehh. A photo op is pretty much par for the course. Not gonna waste my time on that. All politicians do it. Conservative Presidents just happen to glorify American victories. Liberals like to glorify defeat.
You can’t blame a rat for eating cheese. It is just in their nature.
That’s right, hands. Miss Puss can tell it to me or STFU, herself.
This was an affront to military like I’ve never seen. He ran out to Dover to show everybody who’s really boss after making an ass out of himself in Jacksonville FLA when he showed everyone how ignorant he is by calling Navy Corpsmen, “Corpsemen”.

Good for you. I *do* question this Oval Office occupant. He has languished with an ongoing war for more than 80 days. A commander HE put in charge needs more troops. And he dithers.
There is a world of difference between Reagan and Obama.
I do not remember the massive coverage in 1983. I think, though, the ban on media coverage was installed during the Gulf War...and frankly, it should’ve stayed. If you think Obama wasn’t doing this for a photo op, you’re entitled.
But his actions in other arenas show otherwise—so I doubt this was sincere.
only reason the bastard went there was a photo opp.
This guy is classless and an ass.
I question what motivates Barrack Hussein Obama in everything he does, mostly because it appears to me that nothing he does is above board.
Apparently you fail to understand that this "president" only does such things for photo ops. You apparently fail also to understand that this modern press corps by and large, looks with contempt upon those warriors and only sees their demise as a photo op. I'm sure some secretly celebrate their demise. I will not forget, nor will I ever forgive the press and the party of comrade Zer0 for doing the body count during the years of President Bush. I will also never forget that Comrade Zer0 has screwed around for 10 months while Afghanistan spins out of control while about 400 of our warriros have died. George W. Bush would never have intentionally done such a thing to our warriors or our country.
You respect that pantywaist and his limp wrist propaganda machine press corps, I'm sure the hell not.

Simply put, I wish people like Liz Cheney would just STFU.
You are comparing apples to oranges. Of all the different days and times Obama could go see our soldiers he picks this one? Pure photo op.
Just in case you didn’t see this:

Liz Cheney was right and you are wrong.
I think that you might have tapped in to the WRONG forum!
You go, Liz! As always, telling it like it is.
AMEN!!!
I read the article from the Jacksonville paper, a Sailor said he was annoyed to be “ordered” to attend his speech. How many others felt the same way? It would not be a stretch to conclude that he did not have a very warm welcome.
GOOD FOR LIZ!!!
Ronald Reagan did not suddenly show up with his press posse because usually the only one there to take pictures was an AP still photographer.
Ronald Reagan did not start his Presidency with a bash America to our enemies tour.
Ronald Reagan did not bow and kiss the ring of the Saudi Prince.
Context, my dear, context.
I do not question any family choosing to allow media coverage of the Dignified Transfer of the remains of their loved ones. No one, not even the Commander in Chief, should exploit it for a photo-op.
