Canadian arrested in Chicago on terror charges
Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 48, has North York office
A Canadian who runs an immigration consulting office in North York has been arrested in Chicago on terrorism charges.
Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 48, who is a Canadian, but lives primarily in Chicago, and David Coleman Headley, 49, were charged in separate complaints filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
The two are charged with plotting terrorist attacks against overseas targets, including at a Danish newspaper that sparked outrage throughout the Muslim by publishing cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Rana’s First World Immigration Services has offices in several cities, including on Yonge Street in North York, as well as New York and Chicago. The complaint filed against Rana by FBI Special Agent Lorenzo Benedict alleges Rana, who has medical training, owns several businesses in addition to First World, including a farm in Kinsman, Ill., which provided halal meat for Muslim customers, and a grocery store in Chicago.
