There is one main reason that the Camp David Peace process succeeded, and it wasn't Jimmy Carter. The key component was that the real players were old men tired of fighting each other. Momma always said it takes two to fight. It also take two to find peace.

That is why peace with the Palestinians has failed so miserably. Israel is tired of fighting and is trying to negociate with people that aren't. Every round of concessions has degraded the security and safety of Israelis.

The author misses one key event that happened in 1978. It was an event that haunts this country to this very day and likely will for decades into the future. It was 1978 that the Federal gubmint created the Department of (re)Education. In terms of educating our citizens, it's been a downhill slide for 31 years.....
