They are now telling the people what street and highways will be closed. .....don’t come to work unless you really must......some comments made that each tank had independent fire containment around them....some comments that “An explosion of this magnitude, well who knows what it could have been...”
School closures being announced
Close windows if the cloud gets to you ....winds n nw
a cloud of burnt gasoline and unrefined oil....more toxic, we aretrying to find out the dangers ....the composition is being studied, later we will be able to respond better, we hope the winds will help us
Investigation can’t start until fire is out

“Explosion hits Gulf facility in Puerto Rico”
October 23, 2009 By The Associated Press LAURA N. PEREZ SANCHEZ (Associated Press Writer)
CATANO, Puerto Rico (AP) A
SNIPPET: “FBI agents on the scene were among those investigating what caused the blast around 12:30 a.m. (0430 GMT), according to police chief Jose Figueroa Sancha.
A police helicopter that flew over the area confirmed that 11 of more than 30 tanks had exploded, Figueroa Sancha said.”
Some people are starting to hoard gas and stuff.
So far none dead. FD says it will take 2 days to put out.
Ok I’m out. Good Night Good Luck and God Bless PR.
I’m thinking since nobody was hurt? hummm and right after a big strike and protest..... right after 13000 folks lost their jobs......well time will tell
Just a note...the airlines is not associated with this incident.

“Explosion hits Gulf facility in Puerto Rico”
By LAURA N. PEREZ SANCHEZ (AP) 39 minutes ago
SNIPPET: “CATANO, Puerto Rico An explosion at a Gulf gasoline facility Friday rocked a neighborhood outside Puerto Rico’s capital, causing at least some minor injuries and forcing evacuations as firefighters raced to prevent additional blasts.”
I just got to wondering and trying to remember who they used to be.
hey now,
please do not cause trouble
*ping*
bump
I read a story about a gin factory in London blowing up in the 1700’s. Those rendered unconscious by the blast, drowned in the pools of gin that formed afterwards. I’m not sure if that’s a good way to go or not.

Statement from Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuño regarding todays explosion at a fuel storage facility
October 23, 2009
Early this morning, an explosion occurred at a fuel storage facility in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. A fire is currently burning in 14 of the facilitys 40 storage tanks. First responders were on the scene within minutes, and have been closely coordinating with federal, state and local agencies to protect citizens and control the blaze. Currently, there are no known fatalities, and the cause for the explosion is unknown. We are focused on containing the fire and ensuring everyones safety. Working with federal agencies, we have established a unified command center grouping federal and state agencies in San Juan, and an information center close by to continuously monitor the situation.
As a precaution, 150 families in Cataño, a neighborhood just north of the incident, were relocated soon after the fire. Public schools in five municipalities around the facility have been closed for the day. The rest of the public schools throughout Puerto Rico, as well as the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, will operate on a normal schedule. The San Juan airport is operating normally, as are all tourism services.
With a 24 day supply of fuel located in other storage facilities in Puerto Rico, we do not expect any impact on fuel availability in San Juan or throughout the island.

“Blast, fire rip Puerto Rico oil site, inquiry opens”
Sat Oct 24, 2009 12:05am IST
SAN JUAN (Reuters) -
SNIPPET: “Although officials said the incident was initially being treated as an accident, FBI agents were assisting the authorities in investigating the cause of the explosion.
The U.S. Chemical Safety Board said it was also deploying a six-person team to San Juan to help with the inquiry.
Fortuno said security had been protectively stepped up at the island’s other oil facilities in the south coast town of Guayanilla and at Yabucoa on the east coast. “

Page 3 - SNIPPET:
“Consumer Affairs Secretary Luis Rivera Marin ordered a five-day freeze on prices of gasoline and other oil products.
Puerto Rico Gas Retailers Association head Hector Gierbolini said he expected Gulf stations would have supply problems, but other retailers should have available fuel.”
Yes I agree with the recent unrest and now the FBI getting involved it seems suspicious.
