Both of these senators deeply oppose this bill. So what’s up with their positions on cloture?

They must think Harry doesn’t have enough votes to pass the thing, but this is a big gamble on their part. Stupidity reigns in the Senate.

Burr’s office said that S. 1776 bill had nothing to do with Obamacare, but Burr’s staffer is just plain wrong! The Baucus Bill relies on lower reimbursements to doctors under Medicaire to get to 800 billion over ten years; but S. 1776 increases reimbursements by over 200 billion plus over ten years. Therefore, the overall true cost of the Baucus bill is over a trillion for 10 years.

This is a budgetary shell game and Burr knows better!

Just called, and they told me the Senator does not have a position on S 1776 and that he would release a statement this week. The vote is scheduled for “sometime this week.”

Burr is in my district and where did this cloture come out of nowhere?

Burr would not do this, I agree. Before I call I need more facts.

Maybe that is just their position when addressing their voters.

Just a wild guess - as I don't know much about the bill - but is it possible that, tactically, the passage of this bill would make it easier to later filibuster the main Baucus or "joint" bill, i.e. will make it more difficult to pass whatever will come out of Health and Finance committees overall?

With more bills like this attached, it will be easier for others to find something to object to and campaign against it in public, explaining to people the deceitfulness of the bill - too many cooks spoil the soup strategy?
