With just over two weeks left until Virginias gubernatorial election, Democrat Creigh Deeds is left with a narrow path to victory, one that hinges on energizing key demographic groups and the durability of the Old Dominions new politics.
Even as Deeds trails Republican Bob McDonnell by eight and nine points in two of the most recent polls, his campaign and other analysts can still envision a comeback made possible in no small part because of the states political turn leftward.
Virginias Washington, D.C. suburbs, where one-third of voters reside, have gone from being a battleground region to a Democratic bulwark in recent elections, making it dangerous to write off Deeds just yet.
The demographic shift of the state combined with what we have done as a party allows us to have air in our lungs, said Deeds campaign manager Joe Abbey.
Deeds, a state senator, represents the first true test of just how much the tectonic plates of the commonwealths political culture have moved.

LMAO!
Where I live in Arlington most of the citizens just vote for the D.
I do notice less enthusiasm in this election. Last year “volunteers” where at the Virginia Metro stops handing out absentee ballot applications; this year no one.
Last year my MIL had to wait weeks for her absentee ballot after sending in the application; this year she received her ballot a few days later.
When you have seen this happen a few times, you can’t help but be cynical. I always felt that if we took New Jersey it would be a windfall.

Yes but NoVA is still only 2/5 of the state population.
It basically requires a 60+ percent Rat vote (or even more) from NoVA to beat even a 40 to 45 percent Republican vote from the rest of the state.
The numbers are strongly stacked against Deeds. He’s not getting 60 percent of the vote in NoVA.
The gullible immigrants who gave Obozo his victory in NoVA (and thus the rest of the state) were exuberant and strutting in January, but they are very confused and quiet by now.
They *definitely* will not be pushing those 65 percent Rat votes in NoVA this time around.
Yeah, that’s why his Charlottesville office workers looked so dejected yesterday afternoon as I walked through the Mall.
AKA hauling as many illegals as they can find, to the polls.
I haven’t seen a single Deeds sign my neck of NoVA...not a one. What I have seen are signs for McDonnell, right along side of signs for Nichols (a local dem).
