Colo. sheriff calls balloon saga a hoax He says ordeal was staged to generate publicity for a reality TV show
FORT COLLINS. Colo. - A sheriff said he was pursuing criminal charges in Colorado's "balloon boy" saga, which he described Sunday as a hoax to generate publicity for a reality TV show.
Deputies searched the home of the boy's parents Saturday night, carrying away several boxes and a computer.
The boy's parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, met with Larimer County investigators for much of Saturday afternoon amid lingering questions about whether he perpetrated a publicity stunt when his 6-year-old son Falcon vanished into the rafters of his garage while the world thought he was zooming through the sky in a flying saucer-like helium balloon.

You still need to pray for the childrenshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
as their parents are nut cases who
use them in money making scams.
Have a great day.
The father is a nut, and has said a couple of times on other TV shows that he has been in contact with aliens from outer space for a number of years. Is it any wonder why the ACLU would associate them selves with this freak? Birds of a feather.
lol....I imagine he's pretty damn embarrassed...
I thought the exact same thing!
Maybe this will be the end of "reality TV", at least I hope so. I'm so sick of faked/staged shows masquerading as "reality". The good part is that I can change the channel, the bad part is that most channels on TV carry one or more "reality" shows.
I saw in the article that they didn't return home after leaving the sheriff's office. I hope someone know where they are. I'm more worried about this egocentric flake melting down and doing something untoward to his wife and poor boy before himself. Lots of tragic precedent for that sort of thing.
Hmm, again I find myself praying for this boy.
The Mom is just a big of a flake as the father. She was actively trying to lead the child into saying he had heard them calling him by nodding her head at him in the affirmative. The reason being that he was never in the attic and completely out of earshot. They needed everyone to believe hed been in that attic.
This is child abuse. Im not a fan of CPS, but something needs to be done. That child was vomiting the next day after letting the cat out of the bag. Can you imagine the browbeating he must have undergone to ensure he didnt make another mistake? Browbeating a child to lie for his psychopath father.
Off with their heads!
I believe I heard during early on in the press conference, that one of the reporter’s questioned the sheriff for “misleading” the media and sorta made a similar comparison to the Henne family misleading the authorities.
No one dare mislead the media! Unless of course it’s the ‘rats.....
The kind of news story that appealed to people during the 30’s! Kind of interesting given our current economy.
Plus, it gave me my new tagline . . .
Yes. These people were stupid especially if they actually planned this publicity stunt. Now it appears that they continue to act like stupid criminals. Apparently the sheriff is a pretty good poker player. At least initially, he appeared to publicly support the idea that this was all an unfortunate incident. This allowed the sheriff and his interrogators a lot of access to the family. Suddenly, it seems that the opinion of law enforcement has changed.
I don’t condone anything that this family may have done. But I do think that they should have sought advice form a lawyer and taken the fifth before talking to authorities.
We have seen other stories (the kid with the pocket knife, the other one with the knife in the car) in which the targets of the investigation would have been well advised to take the fifth.
If you are the target of an investigation, be polite but take the fifth!
I have been reading on the blogosphere that the sheriff is a Bill O’Reilly fan. Can anyone confirm this. They said he said at the press conference that he wasn’t doing any interviews except for Bill O’Rielly.
I am happy for B.O. and Fox news. I guess they are a legitmate news source after all.
Oh, I think it was in the plan from the very start. Why else put a kid-sized compartment in the "craft"?
Nonsense. If they'd claimed their kid had suddenly developed the ability to fly like Superman and was cruising along at 6,000 feet without a balloon, would you have been worried? No, because "sciency stuff" tells us that's not possible.
Well you can make that decision when Superman comes by. But in that case investigate the parents and not superman.
I think it’s an act of child endangerment to build such a craft capable of holding and concealing a child, and permitting even the slightest chance that a child could actually enter while it’s inflated. There is just no excuse to create that kind of possibility.
An accident? No way; this event has been planned since the very moment the craft was designed, and probably before. One has to ask why a family would design an instrument that could damage and perhaps eliminate a family member, unless using it was being considered.
Everyones talking about whether or not the balloon would or would not have held a 30-40 lb. child, but NOBODYS talking about the fact that the parents STAYED HOME during this ordeal. WHAT parent would have watched that balloon float away and stay home??? Watching that video of the balloon launching, the father seemed more angry that the balloon took off then terrified thinking his little boy was on it; instead of running after it to try to catch it, he just kicked at something on the ground. And, wouldnt they have wanted to be there when it landed, to at least comfort the little boy? Instead, there were only strangers there; Ive heard many people say they were out looking for the boy, and wanted to chase the balloon. WHERE were the parents?? And, for that reason alone, makes this a hoax. The parents KNEW that kid was NOT in the balloon.
Isn't the auto industry in enough trouble without making them liable for building car trunks?
