In 1963, I had a paper route in NC. My papers were dropped in front of the KK at 4 in the morning. I was usually waiting inside, where those nice black ladies made sure I had enough, and they got a paper. The raspberry jelly filled are my faves. There was a gas station on the corner in front, with a nickel (then dime) Coke machine...

Always look for the LIGHTED sign in the window. I love them hot, but cold ,.. nah, not so much! No light, no stop!
