Krispy Kreme had been a popular doughnut chain in the South since 1937, but remained unknown to the rest of us until about 1996. That's when the first Krispy Kreme popped up in New York City, on West 23rd Street. ..."
Krispy Kreme stock hit a high of about $49 in 2003. Then it started on a long downward spiral, losing about 90% of its value.
This company had problems that had nothing to do with its doughnut recipe.
It over-expanded and took on crushing debt. There were allegations of management misconduct. Some franchises went bankrupt. Competition was fierce in the cheap eats category. More people started consuming healthy foods.
In short, Krispy Kreme managed to lose money selling something that is both cheap and delicious.

Sometimes, don’tcha just know, food can be darn orgasmic. Chocolate...
You can have the Orange (what’s a pop?) and the cough syrup, I’ll just take a nice cuppa Joe with mine along with the conversation.
We use to have a Krispy Kreme on Main Street. We’d go in before work and/or right after and enjoy them fresh and hot with coffee just as fresh and all the local gossip, er, I mean news. Small town America, you’ve got to love it. Now we’ve grown and so has Charleston right up to our back doors.
Wise decision.
And Joe Public continues blissfully unaware.
And the scam artists are still trying to convince us that nothing criminal actually happened; We're too ignorant, stupid or both, to understand the delicacies of financial manipulation.
And scarily, many are right here on FR.
Oh, yeah. When my family would go to Plainview, Tx to have my sister's braces tightened, we would get a treat at the Spudnut shop. According to that web site, that shop is still open. I'll have to swing through Plainview the next trip out that way just to see.
Wise decision.
Here's an example of what you guys are missing!
Nehi = brand of fruit flavored soda pop. I remember orange and grape. I don't know if there were others. Maybe strawberry. I don't know. I'm getting old.
Back in the 60s and 70s, Grandma and Granddad had a six pack of Nehi behind the door in the kitchen (the door stayed open and hid the bottles). Once a week or so, they would pull out a bottle and share it. Can you imagine? A six-pack that would last a month or more.
Thank you. Yep, I can remember. The grape was pretty good but the orange was king.
We have arrived at the insane condition where delusional people aren't aware that "opinions" aren't reality.
When acquaintances (they can never be "friends") wax poetic about how I must see a certain film because it is excellent, I just nod and smile. There's no debating the insane. It's waste of time, and it just irritates the irrational.
KK way too sweet. we had several Dunkins here in
the midwest until they all burned down, then kk came to town.
Give me .. Shipley Do-nuts
Southern Maid is very good too.
I don't see why not.
I think it's hilarious that overindulging on anything is the thing's fault, rather than our personal imperfections, gross as they may be.
I managed to eat some, actually enjoyed them while our local DD existed, never more than once or twice a month.
I never felt compelled to eat a dozen at a time. That would be an individual's problem.
O.K., if you’re ever in NYC, it’s my treat.
Eh?
Sorry, Mac, I know nothing about Timmy's...
For me the kiss of death (as in no longer buy it) is any banners touting "health" in any food. For other products, "green" is the equivalent.
If you must act like children cajoling other children I want no part of your product.
Food, by definition, is healthy. If you produce food that is not healthy, you are defrauding the consumer (with or without the coercion).
When McDonalds changed their fries recipe, they lost 95% of my business.
when we were kids (back in the early 70’s) we would stop by KK about 5 am and they would give us the donuts they had made the day before (they were going to trow them out) My Mom and dad thought we were stealing them (we had boxes and boxes in our bed room).
I haven’t ever had their donuts fresh, but I’m not one to look down my nose at any donut. If I’m having one, it’s a break from my usually healthy eating habits, so I pour the coffee or milk and enjoy.
