California voters have never thought less of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the state Legislature, according to a Field Poll to be released today.
Despite that, a strong majority of poll respondents favor the governor's move to call a special session of the Legislature to deal with California's water crisis and tax reform issues.
"It's really a cry of desperation," said Barbara O'Connor, a political science professor at Sacramento State University. "It's ironic. Voters don't like them, they don't trust them, but they want them to come back to Sacramento and solve their problems."
Only 27 percent of poll respondents approve of Schwarzenegger's job performance. That's the lowest approval rating for any California governor in 50 years - except for the 22 percent approval rating the Field Poll delivered in 2003 to then-Gov. Gray Davis, the man Schwarzenegger replaced six years ago in a statewide recall election.
"He has come full circle," O'Connor said. "Familiarity breeds contempt in all sorts of relationships. And you can only use the same one-liners for so long without giving voters any deliverables."

We should all love the governor for his ability to compromise. He just trying to please everyone. I thought that the media has always taught has this. Over and over again he voted for the left and then the right. He has refused to let the left fully do what they want but never fully supported the voter who put him office. He hasn’t yet let the dims rise taxes again. But he did let them raise taxes last time. Should he not be praised by all left and right? He is just a middle of the road guy.
Then those who stand in the middle of the road get hit from cars going both directions.

Arnie fell in the trap of trying to buy off the moochers with more pandering but there is no end to their appetite.
So he becomes just another failed poliician dragged down by his decision to be a redistributor of wealth and a grantor of special treatment to vocal mnorities.
Sacramento is a cesspool. We need to flush it.

I keep fighting, but man, if this isn’t it by now, nothing will wake them up.
It seems that playing a leader does not necessarily equip one to be one. He certainly studied up hard on all the conventional wisdom. Apparently that is not the key to leadership. He surely was one of the larger disappointments of modern times. But the legislature’s performance seems to have been even worse. People got what they voted for.

I am sick and disgusted with people masquerading as conservatives as their candidates run on platforms of compromise over principle, profits regardless of consequences.
I’m disgusted with government wanting to control, tax, regulate and oversee every single aspect of our lives. I never did like controlling people.
The only bright spot I see here is that most everyone I speak with down on the ground, feels the exact same way nowadays.
I see a bad moon rising. Never thought I’d be ready to stand and applaud as my own government collapsed....Under the bending weight of it’s own lies and corruption.

Yeah, but the fact is this is a liberal Dem state in which Dems keep electing tax hiker Dems libs election after election. The ones in N.Cal, are just radicals. This state will not change whether a Dem or Pub is elected to be guv. What it needs is a flip to many conserv Pubs in the Leg. It will not happen.
