The photographs are graphic and detailed, showing the fingers or toes of aborted fetuses whose entire frames are no bigger than a cellphone. Since the mid-1990s, they have appeared all over the country carried as posters by protesters, handed out with pamphlets or, in some cases, mounted like billboards on the sides of trucks.
Like many others, I often wondered about the source of these images. Who took the pictures? Where did the fetuses come from?
I had a chance to find some answers while reporting in late September on the death of James Pouillon, the anti-abortion protester who was shot and killed in Owosso, Mich. [See Saturday's presentation on the subject in The New York Times.]

So incredibly sad
They are atrocity pictures, full comparable to those taken at Hiroshima and Bergen-Belsen. If you want to spare yourself the nausea, don’t look. I won’t blame you.
But please got back and comment. You don’t have to register with the NYT. I’d like to see them NYT praised and encouraged for finally printing the truth, and the noble Monica Migliorino Miller acknowledged for a life of dedication to these doomed infants and their violated mothers. And I would like to see the comment section overwhelmed with insights that touch on the heart-breaking truth.
I see a face etched with sadness by the tragedy she has documented, up close and personal. It is one thing to see a picture of uspeakable horror, another to touch and smell it, to be aware in close quarters of the magnitude of what has been done and continues to be done in abattoirs masquerading as clinics across the land each day.
May God Bless her and reward her for her efforts as only He can, and may some of the shining light of every life she has helped save brighten her days.
thank you for the head up. I can’t deal with that today.
I'm so sorry. May God bless you and comfort you. The article contains no graphic photos, although they are accessible on the slideshow. Just don't click on the slideshow. The comments follow the text of the article, so you can read the comments without seeing anything graphic.

God have mercy for them.
Thank You!
They posted it as comment #98 to the NYT story.
He has, most abundantly...since then He has blessed me with 3 living children (see my home page, which reminds me, needs updating). :-)
I’ll go check the comments now. Thank you!
Wonderful home page. And your blessings are beautiful. :)
Wonderful children! People who feel bruised from looking at the abortion pictures could heal their hearts looking at your lovely loving lovable kids.
You’re children are beautiful! Absolutely darling!!
Labor and delivery was packed and they couldn't take a lady having a miscarriage with a known dead baby.
We got her. Labor and delivery was able to briefly spare us a nurse. My charge nurse and the delivery nurse delivered her baby in the bed on my unit.
The delivery nurse brought the baby out to the nurses station.. She and I gently washed him and wrapped him in a blue blanket. We photographed him so mom would have baby pictures.
At 5 months he was tiny but perfect. Eyelashes, fingernails, beautiful bow shaped lips.
It was my prolife moment.
My stance on abortion has never changed. As the Bible says: any man that claims to love God and yet hates his brother is a liar and the truth is not in him. To me there is no greater hate than killing an unborn fetus or killing innocent men, woman and children. This includes both Moslems and abortionists.
Precious Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lord have mercy.
Christ have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
I cannot imagine why groups like PETA run around worrying about chicks and cows while this is happening every day in this country and elsewhere.
I don’t think she looks rough at all. She looks like a person who’s seen things that no human should have to see - and that has a profound effect on one’s soul and countenance.
