Behind the Scenes: Picturing Fetal Remains

The photographs are graphic and detailed, showing the fingers or toes of aborted fetuses whose entire frames are no bigger than a cellphone. Since the mid-1990s, they have appeared all over the country — carried as posters by protesters, handed out with pamphlets or, in some cases, mounted like billboards on the sides of trucks.

Like many others, I often wondered about the source of these images. Who took the pictures? Where did the fetuses come from?

I had a chance to find some answers while reporting in late September on the death of James Pouillon, the anti-abortion protester who was shot and killed in Owosso, Mich. [See Saturday's presentation on the subject in The New York Times.]

I remember about 25 years ago I attended a film showing the process of abortion and how they handled the “Fetus” which was removed by a vacuum and deposited on a screen over a recepticle.
The Nurses job was to arrange the Baby’s body Parts on the screen to insure they removed all the parts, Head, torso tiny feet and hands.
History will record that America has killed more people during Peacetime than most of the worlds Murderers have killed during world wars.
What a disgrace, How far America has Fallen.

Keep praying about this. In my dad’s family, an uncle made a death bed conversion after years of prayers offered by his wife. Sincere sympathy on the loss of your little one. That ache never really subsides. Just remember you have a wee small protector watching over you. Jesus said “suffer the children unto me” so you can take solace knowing Whose lap your child sits upon.

Now if only I could word comments so gently and kindly :) ... Thank you, and congratulations regarding your uncle; there's nothing like a death-bed conversion to show that Christ is alive and well and making miracles happen.

Yes, the photos that The New York Times ran pretty much separate the "men from the boys" in regard to abortion. It's exciting to see so many people responding with vigor for life regarding this post. Long live the pro-life FReeper!

Where did you see that film and in what context? Maybe it could be shown in the place of the next presidential blathering? America has fallen far via abortion, the tool of the devil. Hopefully the release of Satan's chokehold on us all will soon come to pass, or as Fr. Euteneuer has said, “We are reminded that even supposed political victories are temporary, and that the solution to these problems is not political, even if we have to keep up the political fight and our activist efforts. We are called to prayer, fasting and conversion… only God can put a stop to the horror of abortion now.”

I left a comment yesterday. Was really taken aback by the pro-abortion folks and their comments. It’s all “ME ME ME.”
My heart breaks for the little ones not allowed to live. They just don’t get it about how precious life IS.

That sweet beautiful little lifeless child had a huge impact on my life.

I've used that story often talking to many people.

You can't pretend it's not a child, a life worth of respect just because his lungs never drew a breath, just because his eyes never saw the light of day.
