Impressive! Wonder when the U.S. Navy will realize that usper Stennis class carriers no longer needed in the changing world of UAVs and jump jets that eventually hit MACH 4 speeds.

In the United States, we commission capitol warships under the prefix “USS” which stands for “United States Ship”.
In Great Britain warships use “HMS” for Her Majesty’s Ship”.
In Italy they use “AMB” for “Atsa My Boat”...

Not bad. Roughly the size of the WWII-era Enterprise and fine for the Med.

SONOBUOY PING!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

A typical Italian ship - extremely good looking.
[Even in World war II the Italians probably were using the best-looking ships afloat.]

I think the future of “planet” or terrestrial warships should require more covert launching capability, the Japanese in WW2 had two I boats that were able to launch airplanes from a sealed hanger bay. With current technology its feasible to construct an aircraft carrier that can submerge to at least a shallow depth, can use ROV escort mini subs as a screen and there is actually in some form aircraft that can be launched while submerged.
Eventually (I hope) we will explore space and this is the time to design a new class of warships, big stick policies don’t always work, get in, get out, get er done.
