I think earth is finally coming apart. Any day now we will split into two hemispheres and enter into different orbits around the sun.

Reported in Australian media about two hours ago - I only just saw the reports, but they are time stamped at 12.20 Australian Eastern Standard Time and it is now about 14.40.

When you live on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” luck has nothing to do with it. It’s when and how big!

Just a matter of time in the SF Bay area. We had a 5.6 last year (early 2008- the strongest since Loma Prieta) and the Hayward fault in the east bay is at about the average time between large quakes (there’s creep all the time).
I have a job inspecting a 1963 built apartment building about 300 feet from it Tuesday and hope it doesn’t hit while I’m there!

4’s may scare you. 5’s may do some damage (the 5.6 we had in the Bay area last year only knocked stuff off teh top sheves near te epicenter), but 6 and above start to do some substantial damage.

It has been interesting to me to see the swarms of “mini” quakes (1.0 to 3.0 mag.) in California. Some have been at logical spots like Clear Lake but others are up and down the plate margin. If you Google Earth with the earthquake layer on, you can see the clusters.
