Chicago's bid to win the right to host the 2016 Olympic Games is an important strand in President Barack Obama's diplomatic efforts to reach out to the world, his senior advisor Valerie Jarrett told AFP on Thursday.
Jarrett, who was given personal responsibility by Obama of the first ever White House Office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport, said that the President and the First Lady Michelle Obama considered the Olympic Movement and the Games itself as vital to diplomacy.

The IOC delegates have been making a lot of noise about having the first games in South America sooner rather than later.
Rio is also one hour ahead of the world’s most profitable TV market in the Eastern Time Zone. Chicago is one hour behind, so it doesn’t make a practical difference for viewership and advertising dollars between Rio and Chicago.
Chicago pols may be the most corrupt in the USA, but even the most corrupt Chicago pol is cleaner than the average Rio pol. Rio will double Chicago’s bribes without batting an eye.
And we might just get to see Obama take another pie in the face with his pie-in-the-sky diplomacy.
I cannot imagine how Chicago could possibly[without MAJOR brides] win out over any one of those other three cities.

I do not know about that, all this brought many memories back to me about how Alanta won the 1996 games and the city that was trying to out bid Alanta, Athens WANTED the games badly because it would be held in the same city that got the modern games going a century earlier, in 1896 at the time. We remember what happened, Atlanta got the games and Athens was told YOU ARE NOT READY. I get the same FUNNY GUT FEELING Rio will get the same answer. History tends to repeat itself. I hope I am wrong, but again we humans love to do the insane thing or repeating itself. We will know tomorrow.

I keep saying the same thing. The IOC has not cleaned house. I wish Rio well but they lost the bid.
Rio will end up in the same situation as Athens, they will end up getting the next summer games.
If Chicago wins, then Zero will be worshiped along with Hogwoman and the Linebacker. I wonder if Oprah will demand her guests curtsy in her presence. I really fail to see why the rest of the world is capitulating to these ticks on the arse of world politics.
But then again, Zero is worshiped like a god on the world stage now. Michealle and Oprah are side kicks. Plus Brazil is deemed still a poor country.
