CHICAGO — Cell phone footage showing a group of teens viciously kicking and striking a 16-year-old honors student with splintered railroad ties has ramped up pressure on Chicago officials to address chronic violence that has led to dozens of deaths of city teens each year.
The graphic video of the afternoon melee emerged on local news stations over the weekend, showing the fatal beating of Derrion Albert, a sophomore honor roll student at Christian Fenger Academy High School. His death was the latest addition to a rising toll: More than 30 students were killed last school year, and the city could exceed that number this year.
Prosecutors charged four teenagers Monday with fatally beating Albert, who was walking to a bus stop when he got caught up in the mob street fighting, authorities said.

How come every black victim of black on black crime is a “honor student”? What is the probability of an innocent black honor student getting whacked 80% of the time?
This is right out of Wolf’s Vampire of the Vanities where the black mugger who Melani Griffin ran over was escalated to a “honor student”.
All evidence here tells us that the victim here was a good kid, and did give a shit about his life. In the Chicago social scene that is hard work, and takes some guts. His only failure was that he didn't conform to the 'thug culture'.

In this case the major consideration is the timing (or lack thereof) of the crime. Let's say the IOC declares Rio to be the site of the '16 Event, citing the flagrant risk to public safety in Chicago. The whole scene is (was and will be) on TV all the time, so it can't be swept under the rug. Daley's already pissed, I'm sure, but I'd like to be in the office to see what happens when the whole huge, expensive, star-studded proposal in Denmark fails because of this. BO himself will look like even more of a clown, along with Oprah, etc. The offenders here have no friends, but some really motivated enemies, I tells ya.
Yes, there is a difference between protests and riots, but most of what I cited weren’t protests, they were actual riots. Granted, the Seattle WTO riots were mild compared to 60’s race riots, but I still would have to say, considering the amount of property damage, they were riots.
As for the 60’s race riots, let’s not forget that they were not isolated incidents, race riots had been happening in the US throughout the 20th century, and most of the time, the violence was not one-sided at all. Whites often organized and committed just as much violence (if not more) during these riots as blacks did.
Here are a few excerpts from a description of the 1919 Chicago race riot:
“Further to the west, as darkness came on, white gangsters became active. Negroes in white districts suffered severely at their hands. From 9:00pm until 3:00am twenty-seven Negroes were beaten, seven were stabbed, and four were shot.”
Black and white people went to work the next day without incident, but a street strike forced workers to walk, creating opportunities for mayhem. “But as the afternoon wore on, white men and boys living between the Stock Yarks and the “Black Belt” sought malicious amusement in directing mob violence against Negro workers returning home.”
Black mobs retaliated against the white violence. As the violence increased, police fired into a crowd of black demonstrators, killing four. Whites became emboldened “Gangs in white districts grew bolder, finally taking the offensive in raids through territory “invaded” by Negro home seekers. Boys between sixteen and twenty-two banded together to enjoy the excitement of the chase….
White gangs even invented a new form, the drive-by shooting:
“Automobile raids were added to the rioting on Monday night. Cars from which rifle and revolver shots were fired were driven at great spead through sections inhabited by Negroes.” (6) No white raiders were arrested and Blacks began “sniping” in retaliation. Chicago’s Police Chief admitted to the Commission: “There is no doubt that a great many police officers were grossly unfair in making arrests. They shut their eyes to offenses committed by white men while they were veryvigorous in gettijng all the colored men they could get.” (34). Twice as many blacks were arrested than whites.

Sorry, you keep bringing up scattered incidents of “white” violence, while black race riots have DESTROYED this country.
You are correct that the last 50 years or so, the violence has been mostly one-sided, but before that, you can’t seriously believe that organized white mob violence were “scattered incidents”, can you?
Here is some more information about the widespread racial violence that white Americans participated in:
“Although lynchings were decreasing slightly by the turn of the century, race riots were perceptibly on the increase. Large-scale interracial violence became almost epidemic, as increasing numbers of Blacks migrated to Northern cities. The greatest number of race riots occurred during and just after World War I. During this period the North was concerned with the tremendous migration of Blacks from the South, and the displacement of some whites by Blacks in jobs and residences, which escalated social tensions between the races. The South was concerned about the possible demands of returning Negro soldiers, who were unwilling to slip quietly back into second class citizenship.
The summer of 1919, called “The Red Summer” by James Weldon Johnson, ushered in the greatest period of interracial violence the nation had ever witnessed. During that summer there were twenty-six race riots in such cities as Chicago, Illinois; Washington, D.C.; Elaine, Arkansas; Charleston, South Carolina; Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee; Longview, Texas; and Omaha, Nebraska. More than one hundred Blacks were killed in these riots, and thousands were wounded and left homeless.
The seven most serious race riots were those which occurred in Wilmington, N. C. (1898), Atlanta, Ga. (1906), Springfield, Ill. (1908), East St. Louis) Ill. (1917), Chicago, Ill. (1919), Tulsa, Okla. (1921) and Detroit, Mich. (1943).”

26 race riots in a single summer. That doesn’t sound like “scattered incidents” to me.
These are black faces. But in England they have the equivalent: “yobs” who terrorize their neighborhoods. And the political don’t touch them because they don’t want to “ruin” them by putting them in jail.
