Ex-Friends of Acorn
Wall Street Journal ^ | 9/24/2009 | John Fund

Posted on 09/24/2009 3:53:20 PM PDT by ErnstStavroBlofeld

It was a bad news day yesterday for the community organizers at Acorn, now caught up in Day 15 of a burgeoning scandal that has seen the group condemned by Congress and its financial records subpoenaed by Louisiana's Democratic attorney general.

Last night, the Internal Revenue Service severed its ties with Acorn, which had been an IRS partner in providing low-income workers with tax preparation assistance.

But the real body blow came when Rep. Barney Frank abruptly threw Acorn under the bus, telling Fox News: "I think they have forfeited their right to get [federal] funds."

Mr. Frank said he had been incorrectly quoted previously as saying he would have voted against a motion last week cutting off the group's access to the federal gravy train. He couldn't resist a partisan jab, however, noting that Acorn had received $14.2 million in federal housing funds during the Bush administration -- a fair point.

Mr. Frank also appeared unsympathetic to Acorn's latest attempt to change the subject, a lawsuit filed yesterday against two filmmakers who had videotaped Acorn employees in several cities offering tax evasion advice to a supposed prostitution ring. The suit alleges the filmmakers and news site Breitbart.com violated a local law banning unauthorized taping of individuals. Legal analysts largely panned the case, noting that Acorn had filed the lawsuit jointly with two former Maryland Acorn employees who had previously been fired for the behavior caught on the videotape

Mr. Frank had no comment on the merits of the suit, but did offer this pithy summary: "People have said, 'Well, the sting [against Acorn] is terrible.' I will tell people there is a great defense against being stung. Don't do the kind of things that put you on television."

“I will tell people there is a great defense against being stung. Don’t do the kind of things that put you on television.”

ACORN has been thrown under the bus and Barney Frank is driving back and forth over the body.

Wasn't Frank the one whose "partner" was running an under age homo whore house out of Frank's apartment? Does frank still get "federal funds" in the form of a pay check?

When Barney Frank talks like this, it shows how bad the info coming out on ACORN is going to be. :)

We can not fail to tie the Obama and the rest of the socialist Democrats to ACORN. We can not let them slither away from the nuts.

You are right. ACORN and Obama are connected at the hip.

Obama may claim he didnt know anything, but like the Bill Ayres is just a neighbor lie, it just wont hunt.

Obama was ACORNS legal adviser and Bill Ayres wrote his book, and Obama is a lying sack of Doo.

I think you’re right and it sounds like he’s trying to distance himself from the group. It must be bad!

We’ll see if he’s sincere if he formally petitions Obama to have them struck from all government grants under the control of Federal agencies.

Exactly! Especially since a lot of Dems were elected because of ACORN voter fraud.

I think Barney Frank is afraid the housing scandal of ACORN is going to double back on him. Think he is the funniest one yet to throw ACORN under the bus.

The number one one nut in Massachusetts supplants Acorn.

Could it be that he can’t stand the competition in the brothel business?

The ACORNs caught on tape prove once again........the gov't throwing zillions at poverty is futile, b/c the target group is just too dumb.

"Racism, the culture, injustice, unequal education"---all the intellectually facile bete noirs bandied about---do not create poverty.

ACORN proves the impoverished among us are just not that smart. Even ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis suggested her ACORN employees were "stupid."

Betcha some of the ACORNs caught on tape even have "college degrees." How they got them is anybody's guess but "affirmative action" comes to mind.

It's time to push the reset button WRT to the causes of poverty and what "the gov't" should do about it.

So is there a ‘drought’ on the way to wither the proverbial ACORN seedlings? This IS NOT what ACORN’s dear leader promised and Barnie the ‘banking’ queen sure has had no problem providing all the ‘water’ $$$$ to date these ACORNs needed to take root.

And since the banks wells have been refilled why should the ACORN groves not get what they have been promised? Isn't Barnie running for reelection next year? Corruption or not there has to be a way to shovel out that stimulus ‘water’ for next year's election.

Barnie's discouraging words about ACORN indicate he's running for reelection.....Corruption or not, there has to be a way to shovel out stimulus to bribe ACORN to get out the vote for 2010.... why should ACORN not get the $8.5B Ohaha promised them?

Bwaney's discouraging words about ACORN are amazing...... even Harry Reid sounds downright contrite about OhahaCare.

The clarity of vision pols get when they see their seats imperiled is indeed enlightening.

Must be those hysterical marchers (/snic).
