“I was born and raised on flat ground.”

McNutt is an old east Tennessee surname, you should have feet like a mountain goat. LOL!

Your version is disputed and you left out the Kingdom of The Picts which precedes Alba and the very limited Pax Romana that ever existed there. Caledonia was the Roman term even though they rarely ever controlled much north of Hadrian’s Wall(s)

The Picts were the first known inhabitants there we actually have a name for...I think though there is much evidence of Neolithic man there...but some figure Mesolithic was there as well though it’s impossible to tell now post Ice Age

Some archaeologists dispute that the Dal Riata Scots came from Ireland to Western Scotland but rather were Picts who intermarried with Irish Scotti (latin) that they traded with and assumed their ways and Gaelic manner due to the wives...

Indeed the Norse were strong in parts of Scotland from 9th to 13th centuries

lol...man, that Scota and Milesians talk is myth...ranks up there with Loki and Thor or the Romulus and Remus

as for t the dispute acout Irish Scots...I don’t know either way

Sir Winston....hardly a Scot admittedly...believed many post Pictic western Scots came from Hebrides

Scotland and Ireland are definitely similar in culture and manner and look....and drink

The Normans that defeated the Saxons would cetainly be able to fend off Vikings.

The Normans WERE Vikings, who had been visiting France for a while.

No, Hadrian built the wall to keep out the Picts, an aborignal people.

Supposedly some of the Celtic royal families from the south fled to the Lowlands up north after the Romans invaded. So north of Hadrian's wall was a mix of Pict's with a few rebel southern Celts. Definitely not friendly territory for the Romans. The wall actually was overrun quite a few times and was rebuilt in different locations.

Might be true today? ;-) ....."

I camped and tramped all over Scotland in the early 70s. I agree the weather is awful, but the people were wonderful, its history is amazing and the scenery is breathtaking.

Nemo me impune lacessit.

They were as Viking as “Americans” are “English”; they certainly had no intention of aligning with the Viking army that lost at Stamford Bridge. Even worse, by 1066 they couldn’t even understand their language.

It’s the haggis. Never show up at supper time. They’ll feed you bloody haggis.

Death penalty for anyone who posts a Helen Thomas picture on this forum. Double death penalty for anyone who posts it in a non-related thread. I may be willing to consider leniency because at least it’s a small picture.

The Norse are still strong in the Hebrides, and on mountain sides, and in the stray blond head that shows up in the Highlanders, etc.

However, the Norse are NOT the descendants of King Frosti and his people.

The Picts probably expired due to an early unknown plague of some kind.

"historically"

On a trip to Scotland a few years ago, I bought and read two books about Scots and Scottish history. As near as I could discern it seems most rulers had their tenures cut short by being killed by other kingdom-seeking individuals. All the way up to Robert the Bruce.

Picts did not die off to disease. They were intermmaried and over come genetically by migrants/conquerors such as the Norse you mention and likely the Scotti and even Anglo Saxons and Britons before them from the south.

The Romans write extensively of the Pictic Kingdom. After Pax Romana fell sodid the Picts ironically.

I meant to say Hibernia before btw..not Hebrides.
