OK ... so having been duly chastised elsewhere, I offer the following addition:

“Amish”: Euphemism for melanistic criminal thugs. Perhaps for criminal thugs generally; this was not explained.

Perhaps someone with actual knowledge of the origin of this euphemism (or is that “euphamism”?) will offer additional enlightenment on this very important topic?

I don't have a link to the thread where it first appeared, but I do recall the context...

The article that started a thread was about a couple of criminals who, one could readily infer, were black thugs; but the article danced around that fact in a most annoyingly transparent manner.

A commenter pointed up the lack of reporting thoroughness, and offered the opinion that the perps were probably "Amish" (because, of course, such an association is ludicrous and patently false, hence an obvious joke). The association caught on.

So it's not actually a euphemism (you were right, "e" not "a"), but rather an intentionally satirical (almost sarcastic) way of saying "black".

I'll try to find the original thread. Unfortunately, FR search doesn't search on comments, and google search with site restricted to "freerepublic.com" and search term "amish" returns a veritable plethora of actual Amish thread titles... *sigh*
