House Votes to Discipline Wilson for Outburst

House Votes to Discipline Wilson for Outburst The House of Representatives, on the heels of an impassioned and lively debate, voted Tuesday to formally admonish Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., for accusing the president of lying during a joint session of Congress a week ago. The vote was 240-179. Five lawmakers voted "present." Ahead of the tally, lawmakers hurled an arsenal of accusations at each other over the issue, with Republicans calling the effort a "partisan stunt" and Democrats stepping up their condemnation of Wilson's original offense. The decision to punish him on the floor of the House was made even though Wilson apologized directly to the White House after President Obama's speech Wednesday night. Wilson also issued a written statement expressing regret. Wilson spoke before the vote Tuesday, saying he'd done enough and it's time to "move forward." "There are far more important issues facing this nation than what we're addressing right now," Wilson said on the floor of the House. "(President Obama) graciously accepted my apology and the issue is over." He told FOX News afterward that he thought "political games were played." "I believe today was a low day," he said. "This truly was a game of no meaning." House Minority Leader John Boehner called it a "partisan stunt" and a "sad day for the House of Representatives." But House Democratic leaders wanted further action taken. Wilson shouted, "You lie," after Obama claimed in his joint address to Congress that his health care reform plan would not cover illegal immigrants. It is against House rules to call the president a "liar" or accuse him of "lying" when the House is in session.

The Republicans are worried that we can’t pay for insuring an additional 10 million children. They sure don’t care about finding $200 billion to fight the illegal war in Iraq. Where you going to get that money. You gonna tell us lies like you’re telling us today? Is that how you’re going to fund the war. You don’t have enough money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President’s amusement.

[...] But the President Bush’s statements about children’s health shouldn’t be taken any more seriously than his lies about the war in Iraq. The truth is that Bush just likes to blow things up in Iraq, in the United States, and in Congress.

Both quotes were on the floor of the House made by Congressasshole Pete Stark of California. Stark has never apologized to anybody. Stark voted to discipline Wilson.

This is the America we are living in.

Yeah, I view this as the same (only a greater honor) than when Olbermann does his worst person bit.

Congratulations Joe. The chamber Americans despise thinks you are out of line. That means you did well. LOL

I really hate to say it but it serves him right. He should be admonished. Not for pointing out the fact that baraq O bamah, as his father's (satan's) son, is a liar but because he apologized for speaking the truth.

The truth needs no defense.

That said if I were Wilson I would recant my apology and form a coalition to expose everything about the antichrist I could find.
But then that's probably why I'm not an elected official now isn't it?.... That and the fact that I have never run for office. =)

I think it’s GREAT! If I were Wilson, I’d feel glorious in the fact that I confronted OB in the front of the whole world and chamber and wound up get maybe over $2M in campaign donations. GO JOE!

I'm frankly shocked that more republicans didn't vote for the resolution, from the fake outrage I heard from all the RINO's after the episode. But the outpouring of support for Joe has made them a little "wiser," apparently.

Even more shocked at the number of Democrats who voted against it. Could they fear the electorate - who is showing renewed respect for a congressman with B@11s?

Reasonable to reprimand Wilson.
After all, the Dems calling Bush a liar were severely reprimanded.

right?
right?

The dems need to go to Ca. where they are wanted.

No, no! We don't need any more tax-and-spend, economy-destroying, wealth-sucking, anti-American loser dems out here. We've got enough of them to share with the other 56 states already.

Dear Congressman Lewis,

Please find enclosed my check for your campaign. It is not much...I don't have much. But if it means anything at all to you, I have never made a political contribution to any candidate or to the RNC. You do not even represent my state.

I was not really happy initially as to where you made your completely correct dissertation. But you did apologize to the injured party (the President) and it was accepted.

The hypocrisy of today's events disgust me. I fear we have a bunch of children running this country.

Thank you for not backing down.

Sincerely,

Berdie
