Senator Mike Johanns (R-NE) introduced an amendment to the HUD and Transportation appropriation bill to strip ACORN of all federal funding. A week ago, Johanns wouldnt have gotten the amendment to the floor. Today, however, after three straight days of BigGovernment.coms video exposés of ACORN offices in Washington DC, New York City, and Baltimore offering assistance to pimping, tax evasion, and trafficking in underage Salvadorean girls, Johanns not only got his vote but he got an impressive bipartisan showing. The Senate passed the Johanns amendment 83-7. At the beginning of the vote, it appeared that Democrats might resist. Initially, a half-dozen Democrats cast votes in opposition to the amendment. A few more cast votes against it as the rest of the Senate voted, but the tide appeared to shift. More and more Democrats signed onto the amendment, and votes started changing. One male voice could be heard in the chamber saying, I want to change my vote! Among those who changed their votes: Tom Udall (D-NM), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), and Herb Kohl (D-WI).

I hope they included any other ACORN aliases in the bill.
I don’t believe this will really happen. Just more BS. The folks running Acorn should be in jail. When that happens I’ll believe they are doing something.
Update: Thanks to Sean Hackbarth, we have the list of seven nays on the amendment so that the Child-Whoring Pimp Assitance 7 can be publicly identified:
Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Roland Burris (D-IL)
Robert Casey (D-PA)
Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
So can we assume that Illinois and Vermont are especially sympathetic to child-whoring pimp assistance?
Too funny! The other 6 will quickly realize that putting themselves on such a short list with such a notorious slimeball was not smart.
They’ll just show up with a new reality show titled “Pimp My Government.”
The big question will be whether the House follows suit. Nancy Pelosi may not be inclined to let an amendment come to the floor, but James OKeefe and Hannah Giles may not be done yet, either. A few more of these videos and even Pelosi will have little choice but to slam the door on ACORN. The big test will be whether the Johanns amendment survives a conference committee. This isnt over yet.

(I think the answer is YES)

My error. Didn’t mean to repost on this thread. My apology to everyone.
Now they need to go after them, in force, for any laws they broke.
Rats jumping a sinking ship....
In the case of Illinois, it's quite safe to assume that. As for Vermont, it's possible that there's actually a reasonably legitimate branch of ACORN operating up there, make the Vermont senators ambivalent about cutting off funding to the entire organization.
” but he got an impressive bipartisan showing. “
Some Dims smell the blood in the water and they don’t wanna be on the menu come next November.
Burris is just following the lead of Turban Durbin.
“As the president said, anyone who'd like to step forward from the Republican side and help us write this bill in a constructive, positive way, we need their help.”
Well, look what happened when Republicans helped write THIS Acorn Defunding Bill in a constructive, positive, way.....NO HELP FROM HIM!
Congress OUGHT to be knocking on obamas door asking HIM about his ties to A.C.O.R.N.
HE ought to be cut off too.
If they did that Obozo would say, “Congress acted stupidly”
I was hoping Specter would be on the list! :(
Even Schumer voted NO which means Gillibrand is the left of him — shocking. Did Kerry vote NO or was he absent?
I’ll second that. You know they will still get their $. Must keep a close eye.
I agree, they should be fully prosecuted for many crinimal activities. It’s sad these people are an abomination to our country, our democracy, yet the media could careless. More than ever, the liberal media needs to be exposed and humiliated on every occasion.
“From What I heard on Fox just Now ,, it just applies to ACORN HOUSING..”
I’ll bet 1000 acorns here’s what’s going to happen.
ACORN HOUSING will shut down - go out of business. The next day COMMUNITY SHELTERS, a non-profit corporation, will go up, getting even more funding. We need a full time watchdog shining a floodlight on these despicable roaches - and a RAID brigade to snuff them out as they emerge from their holes.
They have got to be one of the most pernicious societal pests we’ve enountered in a long, long time.
Lol! Roland Burris.
I read here on FR that ACORN had many, many tentacles, so I hope the Congress is cutting off ALL funds. Remember, we’re dealing with a well funded organization - thanks to the taxpayers.
