... the Countryside Alliance and the police agreed on the CA tally of 407,791 marchers. Critics of the Liberty and Livelihood demonstration may accuse the police of bias towards middle class masses in tweed - but the CA put a great deal of organisation into producing an accurate count.
The CA used two teams of four people each to gauge the numbers passing a specific point during a three-minute period. The first group counted the number of people in a row across the width of Whitehall, and the second counted the number of individual people who passed the same point.
Using the average figure from each team of four counters, organisers could multiply the number of people in a row by the number of rows and come up with a fairly accurate count for a three-minute period.
The CA repeated the exercise every half hour and continually liased with police counters at a point about 800 yards down the road. The method still relied on a sympathetic count by police. If there had been a disagreement, the CA, for all its effort, could not claim the final tally was impartial.
the fact is 1.5 million is a fair estimate, but who will give us a fair estimate
We know the capacity of the capitol mall in a static time-frame. We have the time-lapsed video of the march filling Pennsylvania Ave. for 3.5 hours. If we make adjustments for the differences in area and density, then calculate the time from the start of the march to the end point at the capitol, we should have a good estimate. No?

No, they won't.
Pitchforks and torches, tar and feathers.
I was there yesterday and I'll be there for the next one.
Yep, at a minimum.
BTW, thank you for being there.
I was sort of surprised that there weren’t any counter protesters there, ie, Acorn, or any other organization, etc.
Although that is a good thing, as we could have a peaceful event and enjoy our day. But, I still thought there would be some counter demonstrators there. Hmmmm..Maybe Acorn has to start budgeting their money now that they don’t have the Census job.
This was the most awesome thing I have ever taken part in - ever. I can’t even put into words how great it was.
Up until this year, I’ve never done anything like this. That is a common theme I’ve heard at all 3 tea parties I’ve been to.

Sorry about the double post. My computer hiccuped.
I was really expecting ACORN and SEIU thugs to show up in force. I’m glad they didn’t. I really didn’t want any violence.
There were a few isolated people. Nothing too much in the way of counterprotestors.

Is that 3D-JOY in one of the first pictures with a flag and a chair??????
Nice to see it was covered on all the news channels. HA.
Wish I could have been there!
The American Broadcasting Commune can go screw themselves! Watch FOX News!
Pennsylvania Avenue was the place with the crowds, at least during the morning, since the march went from Freedom Plaza to the Capitol. I suspect that to get a truly accurate crowd count, people would need to use Pennsylvania Avenue pictures in addition to the other places.

I'm guessing one of two things happened:

Actually, you need good pictures or video from Pennsylvania avenue, or you need a good overhead shot from later in the day on the mall.

If you try to add everyone from the morning pictures on Pennsylvania Avenue to the ones on the Mall in the afternoon, you count a lot of people twice.
I’m really disgusted with FoxNews. They’re sticking to the consensus that the number of protesters was “thousands”. They were there for cryin’ out loud. It was hundreds of thousands.
