Celebrating the 9/12 rallies-TURNOUT EST RANGE FROM 350K (liberal) TO 2 MILLION (conservative)

6:15 PM EDT Mod Update (per NRO's reporting): estimates of crowd size range from 350,000 to 2 million. Prolly somewhere in between.

Huge crowd, yes. But not two million. Even DeMint has now changed his first boast on this. Malkin is wrong because the police do not give estimates.

We were there and have seen a lot of crowds on the mall for inaugurations, July 4th festivities, marches, etc. Two million would not fit on the Mall in its two mile stretch.

Best estimate from experience? - 200,000 plus. For those familiar with the Capital and the Mall, the crowd filled the Capital west lawn, the area around the Grant reflecting pool, and west to Fourth street. It started encroaching on another group’s permit west of the Grant statue. It could be another 100,000 to 200,000 because they were forced to spread out along the sides of the rally because of the permit limits and the loudspeakers’ range.

It was a very large crowd, far beyond expectations, but too many groups inflate the numbers (mostly libs). It was NOT “tens of thousands” as the CNN NBC crowd are trying to say, but more like hundreds of thousands. BTW, the DC or Park Police do NOT make estimates, so anyone saying so is wrong.

Not bad for a rally organized by amateurs with no coordinating megalith like unions or the NAACP. Just real people. Almost ALL of the thousands of signs were handmade, not the fancy pre-printed ones handed out by liberal groups like MoveOn and SEIU.

I posted this on earlier threads. Now reports coming out are backing up my estimate. 200,000 (up to 400,000 because many were off to the side in the nether reaches of the Capitol lawn) is a HUGE number - four full Yankee Stadiums. Let’s not get carried away with the 2 million claim and give the left an opportunity to refute everything else.

And it was true grass roots. Almost ALL the signs were handmade, not the product of SEIU and DNC printing presses that characterize liberal rallies.

Since when does ABC or anyone ask the Fire dept anythng about an outdoor event . ABC was desperate to find a low low figure since they were quoted 2 million by other sources. ABC the same outlet of Linda Douglas queen of Obama healthcare propaganda , Obama care informerical, banning all anti obama ads,

My guess is about 700-800 thousand. I have been to the mall when the Beach Boys played a free July 4th concert for 600,000 people, and there were definitely more folks there today.

The lines for the porta-potties were 80-100 folks deep at times.

Everyone was very polite, except for a hothead or two that yelled at a CNN crew. Yelling at a cameraman does not do any good. I went up afterward and thanked them for showing up.

Add to that the number who drove (parking looked awful) and the number who came on busses (everywhere) and the number was very impressive indeed.
++++++++++++++++

If you listen to the speaker on the CSPAN broadcast, there were 450 bus loads - at 50 per bus that’s 22,500 right there.

So adding up your trains estimate in just two hours, with the busses, we’re at least at 100,000. I imagine people arrived anywhere from 8am to 1pm.

I think it sounds like anywhere from 200,000 to 500,000 is extremely reasonable. But, maybe more?? :)

“approximately 60,000 to 70,000 people flooded Pennsylvania Ave, according to the Washington DC Fire Department.”
++++++++++++++++

What, in the first hour? What about the next 4 hours??

Right. Plus that was just Pennsylvania Ave... not all the surrounding streets.

You’re 100% right. Why quibble over numbers...they’re going to spin it the way they want it to look, anyway.

And, considering the economy the way it is, for that many people to be able to afford to go to DC to protest is an amazing feat. I’d have LOVED to have been there...but with the taxes and furloughs we’re enduring out here in WI, no way.

I, personally, commend everyone who went to DC and across the country to protest. Just remember...for every person out there marching, there are at LEAST ten people behind them, agreeing with them, but stuck at home.

Thank you all for what we all believe in!

THE CNN Leftist was using the march as a backdrop to trash Joe Wilson ! That is why they were yelling Tell the Truth !

Here's a typical home game attendance at Texas A&M's Kyle Field for comparison. The stadium has a stated seating capacity of around 82,000 but has held upward of 90,000.

The top picture is staggering! Sure looks like 2 million.

How many blocks is that of wall to wall people? Looks like a mile and a half at least.

Many thanks to the people who attended.

I was there for that, too. The outburst I objected to was after the camera stopped rolling and the cameraman was putting his gear away. Screaming at a roadie is like screaming at the waiter if the chef messes up a meal.

I was there for the entire thing from 9 am til 4:30 pm...there was no less than 250k people. No way was there 1.5 million. But I would say 250k minimum and a high of 450k.

Yes...I was there today, too. I would say 500,000 as a guess.

The only thing is that there were definitely people coming and going when I left around 3:00, so it could very well have been much more than that as a whole.

Read it again. The DC EMA only states “The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.”

They make no claim as to the size of the crowd. That is a claim of the UK reporter, who has no knowledge of DC crowd estimates. Their report comes from watching city-wide TV cameras that are turned on whenever a significant event occurs in the Capital. (Privacy complaints restrict the use of cameras at other times.)
