But these same friends (ladies) are proud to tell me that they are racist! they don't want their sons/brothers/nephews dating white women. I remember when I was a kid, that dating a white girl was a huge taboo among black people. My eldest cousin once did that back in the late 60's, and his dad nearly disowned him for it. My uncle wasn't even a racist, per se, but he was definitely in step with the status quo of the time.
My dad and I both eventually married white women, and one of my nephews is married to a hispanic woman. Dad had to endure the disagreement of his parents over his marriage, but my generation is a lot more relaxed about it.
I dislike black racists as much as any other kind. I guess I'm just agnostic on the whole subject. It's just not important to me, in any way, shape, or form. I don't even think about it until other people force me to put my attention on it. Been that way my whole life.

I feel the same way. It is a bit interesting for me because I have never defined myself by my outward appearance or race. I just don't think about it. It is interesting to see how people behave around me during race discussions, because to look at me, I don't look black at all so whites are more likely to say what they really think. Blacks do the same because I don't look white either. I have found that people who constantly see racism is because they are looking for it. I have a cousin who took a work contract recently in rural MO. A friend of hers asked if she had seen a black person yet. My cousin replied that the people there were so friendly and she was having such a nice time, she hadn't thought about it. So again, I really think it is all about your outlook.
Hey, it's been nice chatting with you Windflier....will see you around.

It’s not Obama’s skin color I object to, it’s “the content of his character”!
