Sen. Chris Dodd is banking on Banking.
And as its still-chairman, getting something done there could determine whether he will be a senator, much less a chairman, in 2011.
Faced with the most difficult reelection bid in the Senate next year, the three-decade senator rolled the dice Wednesday and opted to stay where he is as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee. He had considered taking control of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) panel following Sen. Edward Kennedys (D-Mass.) death.
Neither committee offered great political prospects, but both provided strong opportunities for Dodd (D-Conn.) to accomplish something big. In HELP, the healthcare bill has been a tough slog and the debate has been re-centered on the Finance Committee, while the Banking Committee is next in line for arduous reforms and will remind people of the bad things that happened in that industry on Dodds watch.

This is great news. We need Chris Dodd to stay in the race and get the Democrat nomination—any of the Republicans running would have an excellent chance of defeating him. On the other hand, I don’t believe that any of the Republicans currently running would be favored against state AG Richard Blumenthal if he replaced Dodd on the ballot (not to say that they wouldn’t stand a chance, but it would make it much harder to win).
BTW, we don’t need a RINO to defeat Dodd. It appears to me that state senator Sam Caligiuri is the most conservative of the CT Republicans seeking the seat. http://www.samforussenate.com/
it is a disgrace that Dodd is even a candidate and a disgrace if the DEMS nominate him. And a disgrace that the GOP is going soft of him up here because they want him to be the nominee.
Dodd is a disgrace beyond words.
Pete, if Dodd isn’t renominated, we lose. We need to assure that the Dems put up the weakest possible general nominees. Why would we want the Dems to put up a strong, undamaged nominee ?
the DEMS are going to do what they want. So i wouldn’t worry about it.
But it is a disgrace that Dodd is even running. It is the equivalent of Gov. Rod Blagojevich running for the Senate seat.
Pete, we have to worry about who the Dems run. If Dodd is replaced with Blumenthal, we can forget it. I absolutely love seeing the Dems run weak and disgraced people, it only helps our cause.
then we should be working for Dodd, helping him secure the nomination. The best way to help the anti-Dodd cause is to work for Dodd.
Go figure! That is ironic. You must be a veteran of CREEP and taught Liddy everything he knows.
Petey, are you being cheeky ?
Go figure! That is ironic.
LOL. I wouldn't go that far.
But I can't hope the weak rat incumbent quits the race. Disgrace or not. We can send him to jail after he loses.
Now we just need to make sure Simmons is not nominated. Hopefully Caligiuri or Schiff will improve their primary poll numbers.
