NEW YORK (Reuters) - American teenager Melanie Oudin's spectacular run at the U.S. Open gathered momentum when she beat Russian 13th seed Nadia Petrova 1-6 7-6 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals on Monday.
The 17-year-old has captured the imagination of the public by rolling over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, fourth seed Elena Dementieva and 2006 champion Maria Sharapova.
On day eight of the hardcourt major, Oudin again whipped up the packed Arthur Ashe Stadium into a frenzy when she fought back from a set down to toss Petrova on to the Flushing Meadows scrapheap.

I should say they weren’t much on my radar. They had image problems for me
They have indirectly hurt womens tennis in the sense that girls who are 5’5” and 110 lbs try to copy their power game. The Williams sisters are phenomenal athletes, but don’t rely on finesse, which is what it takes for these smaller players.
I’m hoping Clijsters or Oudin wins.
I like Venus, but Serena has zero class. When she loses, she never ever gives credit to her opponent. Instead, she chooses to come up with every lame excuse in the book.
AND sometimes she starts with the excuses while still on the court. Still remember the time Capriati was whipping Serena’s fanny in a major (the semis I think) and Serena suddenly pleaded to the chair that she just had to go to the bathroom. It was #2 and she just couldn’t hold it, don’t ya know (court microphone caught it all). In reality, Serena was just trying to buy 10 to 12 minutes to regroup, but it didn’t work. Capriati got the win.
