Carl Pope, the white male executive director of the Sierra Club wrote an after the fact defense of former Obama administration official Van Jones published at the Huffington Post tonight that smears everyone, including Jones, with racial insults.
Pope says he served with Jones on the board of the Apollo Alliance and calls himself a friend of Jones.
But like so many privileged liberal white males, Pope doesn't see Jones as a Yale Law grad and successful author. No, he sees Jones as just another black man from the ghetto.
Pope lets his inner racist out as he writes a defense of Jones calling President George W. Bush a "crackhead" and Republicans "a**h***s" by explaining it as Jones speaking "in the language of his own community," in other words 'he can't help it 'cause he's Black'.
(full context: "They were cuing up video clips from teenagers that Jones taught in the Oakland ghetto in 2000. If you watch the infamous "a**h***s" video carefully, it's clear that what Jones was saying was that Republicans play hardball better than Democrats, and that we need to start playing by their rules. He said it, though, in the language of his own community -- and that, at the end of the day, was his crime. He spoke to and was of a part of an America that Fox and the reactionary right would like to put back on the plantation or pretend is not part of our nation."
Pope can't bring himself to admit that what drove the effort to oust Jones from the administration was the outrage at Jones' vile anti-American, pro-terrorist, Communist, cop-killer supporting politics being rewarded with a prestigious appointment to the United States government by the president.
Instead, Jones accuses everyone of being a racist: And why did Fox News go after Jones but not Friedman, not Schwarzenegger, not even Presidential Science Advisor John Holdren, who in July of '06 criticized the president for failing to follow through and help us kick our "oil addiction"?
There are three possible reasons. They are connected, and it is their connection that is important.
1) Van Jones, unlike everyone else I have quoted on the topic of our oil addiction and George Bush's complicity with it, is African-American.
2) By specifying that Bush's addiction was "crack-head"-like, Jones linked Bush to a drug largely used in the black community.
3) Van Jones works for the first black man to be elected president.
And:
What we underestimated was the power of the fact that both Jones and the Barack Obama are black. Yes, the hysteria was about politics -- I don't think Fox News really cares about Jones's ethnicity -- but it was enabled by race. Calling Bush a "crack-head" is seen by a large part of America as worse than calling him "addict-in-chief" because crack is not just a drug -- it is a drug used largely by black people. It reminds those Americans who are still uncomfortable with Barack Obama that we have a black president.
But remember, Jones can't help himself according to Pope. With friends like these, Jones no wonder Jones got tossed overboard.
The libtards are screaming like the Wicked Witch of the West doused in water and melting.
BWAHAHA! A little paternalistic racism from a white liberal. I love it!
The Sierra Club should have been investigated a long time ago. I learned what they were about back in the late 60s. An investigation is way overdue.
Get out the popcorn. This is FUN!
This is one of the best meltdowns I’ve ever enjoyed.
lol
They LOVE keeping the ‘black in the back’, don’t they? Utterly absurd! They always treat minorities as if they can’t think for themselves.
This punk puke was just a communist entrusted in a high position in our government. And then there was Van Jones.
This Pope creep is just as bad as Jones. Worse even, since he knows much better how to hide his beliefs. Jones was just sloppy.
Examples?
More of the “soft bigotry of low expectations.”
I seriously doubt Jones had any interest in “green jobs”. He was probably more interested in power, particularly the power to hand out money.
LOL. Reminds me the many white liberals that I know who felt so proud of themselves the day after the election. One of them even told me that she felt “hopeful for a change. Maybe now young black men will have a positive role model”. She’s lived all her life in liberal NJ and only after casting a vote for a community organizer with no leadership or executive experience did she feel hopeful for young black men. Just peachy.
“what drove the effort to oust Jones from the administration was the outrage at Jones’ vile anti-American, pro-terrorist, Communist, cop-killer supporting politics being rewarded with a prestigious appointment to the United States government by the president.”
EXACTLY
Are these really the comments of a sane person?
But they had such nice posters of the woods and mountains. Who could have known what they were morphing into?
An old southern black woman once told me she prefered the open racism of the old south to the “we gotta help the negro” racism of liberals.
The open racism is easy because you can see it ans sidestep ut. Liberal racism won’t allow a sidestep because they just have to help whether you need it or not.
