When I was in H.S. one of my good friends was a black girl who was very smart. She really studied hard. She was shunned by the other black students. She had us, but I couldn't believe how she was treated. She became a successful doctor. It is sad that many black children feel it isn't cool to do well in school.
Trust me, this isn't a new thing. My parents both endured negative peer pressure from classmates and peers for their academic achievements in Watts of the late 1940s.
